those who never upgraded their intakes will generally say that stock is the best. My car never came with a stock system but i can tell you that it will make a difference.
K&N makes a FIPK kit for the S4 *thats what they call it, fuel injection performance kit* basically consists of a adapter and cone filter *their kit does not change the hose*, and they wont release a kit if it doesn't make a certain percentage gain over a stock setup*.
Theres not really any mass produced kits for our cars so alot of people go with a custom setup, basically anything you want.

If emissions legality isn't a concern, you'd be best off making your own. All you really need is a tube with a bend of 45º or so, a few appropriately sized couplers, and a high-quality air filter. The hard part is actually making it useful: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/diy-cold-air-box-830116/
The tube can be usually be sourced from eBay 'cold air intakes' for various Hondas (3" 45º, cut to length yourself), or you could go to a supplier and buy it directly.

I probably wouldnt expect a big diffrence between performance intakes. You will feel one between the stock and aftermarket for sure though. Even with a drop in KnN mine boosted way faster and harder with an aftermarket set up.
