NEED help deciding what is cheaper and best route

okay so i just bought some RB exhaust from another member today

My question is whether to just cut the mufflers down to size to fit my Y pipe i have on now so that way i can still put my stock ones or my cheapy N1 copies back on if i wanted...

Or just get a new Y pipe made to complete my FULL RB exhaust set up?? also that way i dont have to modify the mufflers and keep them the way they are

i know these mufflers were to be used with the full RB set up but i basically bought everything separate.. so i have the RB na headers and presilencer hooked up to my stock Y pipe and now a set of old school RB exhaust mufflers..

here they are after i polished them up =]

compared to stock

thanks in advance

I love those old RB mufflers, I would not modify them- I would have your stock exhaust modified to fit them

while your at it, paint em for that added mental note that they are clean when you put them on. I cant imagine this being much benefit without new piping.

Buy a racing beat y pipe. Then it will all bolt up. If that isn't an option you can get a custom one made. Ymmv with the quality of the Y split though.

Racing Beat Y-Pipe for all 1986-92 RX-7 Applications
Part Number: 16447
Retail Price: $225.00

That is straight from Racing Beat

The stock Y pipe isn't split all that bad really. The problem with it is how it is welded together (nasty like) not to mention it splits a 2.5 pipe into 2, 2 inch pipes.

I dont know if the new system components will bolt up to the old mufflers, and they may be turbo mufflers and his car is NA

they are turbo mufflers and your car is obviously NA, so even if the new Y-pipe would fit those mufflers, which I am 99% sure they wont, it would still need to be modified.

At that point you might as well just have a local exhaust shop make something up for you

+1...I have the old RB exhaust on my N/A (y-pipe and mufflers) and it still didnt bolt right up. There was the difference in pipe diameter and like a 3 inch gap between the pre-silencer and Y-pipe. So either way you're going to have an exhaust shop fab something up for you.
