Smile My rx7 reborn thread

Hi!
First of all..
Ive been into rotary for some years now and i started of with the red ugly one below. I bought it pretty cheap for three years ago and was going to build a nice daily driver. That didnt happend.
I started of with a really strickt budget and only bought parts to get it running. It ended up with a LT8 since i didnt get the jspec engine and stuff to run.
After a few months my car got blue! Yea, ended up quite good but with a bad finnish since im one of the guys doing EVERYTHING myself!
The story goes on.. More parts showed up at the post office and the car went from daily driver to street racer.. As drifting got more and more popular in Norway i wanted to compete in the series in north. Started of with a almost standard suspension but found out that i wanted it stiffer.
So my modlist was:

SUSPENSION:
-Tein RA coilovers
-Masdatrix front camber/caster plates
-Racingbeat anti-sway bars
-Mazdatrix swaybars endlinks
-Energy suspension bushings
-DTSS eliminator
-Racing Diff mounts (Fixed my Kaaz clunk)
-Kaaz 1.5way diff
-Super angle now kit
-Low profile tires on 17" and 18" rims
-Mazdatrix Rear Camber adjuster

Last winter (05/06) i figured out i needed more power. I found a 13bRE that suited my needs and stuffed alot of cool parts on it
ENGINE:
-20k km 13bRE
-Fully rebuild
-ported s4 exhaust
-Gt35R
-Microtech LT8 (from the old engine)
-720/1600 injectors
-Custom fuel rails
-Custom SSbraiden fuel lines
-Walbro pump
-Custom Cosmo TB elbow
-Ebay FMIC setup
-Custom exhaust with mazdatrix parts (96db)

In the end the car got really nice and my driving skills got better and better.
In august 07 the car got painted orange and i had to ditch the t2 hood after a little bumper kiss with a 180sx

Then 2 weeks after repaint i wrecked the car!

It was red 3 years ago, then blue 2 years ago, then orange 2 months ago and then wrecked!

AFter the crash i didnt know what to do so the car was left alone for two weeks. I almost had it out for sale really cheap...
BUT! a couple of beers and looking at racing vids got me back on track I called a friend of mine that had a FC chassie with a rollcage... Next day i picked it up!

1 week after i bought it i ended up 10. in a drifting competition.. Not good but since i managed to put an entire FC together in just 5 days while i was working 12 hours a day i was satisfied...

SOOOO WHAT DO I WANT NOW?!?!
I want a relible FC with alot of nice race mods! The car is not ONLY drifting but also time attack and autoX

This thread is about my projects winter 07/08... Maybe boring for you guys.. i dont know.. but ill try to update it now and then with some pictures of my mods.
TODO list:
-Hardcore VMOUNT setup
-Modify NA hood
-Modify front bumper for better air flow etc
-Finnishing up the rear Wing
-Repaint rims
-Making it "race ready" inside (rollcage polstering, gauges, etc)
-Bodykit?!
-Fixing all the oil leeks on the engine
-Get a better engine tune!

hehe i totally agree.. The reason it got orange is because i needed something more eye catching. I still belive it would`ve become pretty good with alot of stickers etc, but thats history!
The blue is lamborghini eple candy blue. Nice truue blue color!

That car has FD oil coolers. Drop the rims and get a better looking spoiler, like the re-amemiya one, and it would look alright.

Yea, i got some really nice 18" rims and alot of 17" random rims..
About the oil cooling. How do people do it when they build a vmount? I want to have important parts as far behind as possible since small crashes arent unusual :P
I still dont know with the wing... I got one we made at work but it might be to overkill!
The first thing ill do is to change the Tein HA coilovers that are allready mounted on the new rx7 with the RAs from the old one.

One more thing i want to do is to modify my knockles so i get even more turning angle.. It helped alot with the super angle now kit but the more the better!

I'm guessing they mount it far back as possible when drifting, however, porsche runs its radiators similar to how the oil coolers are mounted on that fc, thats also how the fd mounts the oil coolers, i'd just mount it there, make sure the low oil level light works, and keep spares handy.

Sounds like a good ide!
Stock FD coolers will keep the temp low enaugh?
Ive allready been saved by the oil low light when i managed to short the ign +12v through one of the oil cooler SS lines.. i lost 1 gallon of oil in just a few sec!

If im gonna keep the stock oil cooler where should it be mounted when im going Vmount? Thats whats bothers me. I dont want it blocking the airflow to the rad and IC..
It was really nice and clean when it was blue! If i one day gonna have a FC on the road again itll be true blue like it was
Here is a little movie when it was blue (yea i know, been posted before!) http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a10...7breisladd.flv

Back to the building.
I got myself a set of 6pt seat belts and im gonna use the old OMP seats in the new chassie. Since the new chassie got a rollcage i bang my head to the cage all the time. How do you guys mount the seats? Now i got 90deg angles with almost no gap between the seat and the stock FC rails. I really need to get the seat lower!
Where do you fasten the 6pt seat belt? i have plates that can be welded on to the chassie but havnt really figured out where its nice to weld em!

Drifting = Bouncing off the rev limiter while not actually being at speed.

I think you could use all of the oil cooling upgrades you can get if you drift, add an oil temp gauge just so you can see.

Ive always belived that the stock FC one was good enaugh. Then a friend of mine got a jspec one with a oil temp gauge and he said he had problems with high oil temp when drifting.. Ill see what i can find. But two new coolers and new lines, each mounted where the brake cooling duct is, would`ve been the best!

Suggestion on he oil cooling. I personally will be running dual earls oil coolers with Efans. Efficient and will help pull air over the coolers when your sideways and not getting flow over them.

BTW, love the orange. Had a spicy orange MSP and seriously considered doing my FC that color.

Finally got the new rims on with spacers!
Im pleased with how they fit. They`ll be painted with black senter and the color of the car on the polished alu edge...
Since the car is going to have a eye catching color i dont think silver colored rims will look good!

He built a damn nice car and had fun driving it.

If you don't like drifting who gives a **** here, it's still a free country. For all I know norway is too.

Im sure drifitng is a waste of money for all of the people who are obviously poor and have nothing who are in D1 as well.

I dont even like drifitng that much myself and i can see the ignorance in your post.

Not to mention you can lock up the brakes in any form of driving, not just drifitng, he wasnt even in a drift when it happened he was braking.

hehe, bla bla bla bla.. We`ve heard it before psiturbo...

Anyway, i guess this thread has become "yet another build-up thread without any action"..
Thats gonna change! I finally manage to get my fathers RX7 out of the garage and now i just need to move some things to the rx7 parts-"barn"

Nothing much has happend since last time other than i recived the raceonusa "gpsport" kit a few days ago. Today i fitted the bumpers etc (DAMN!! Raceonusa got BAAAD molds :S)

Since im one of the "drift"-guys im gonna make my own (much better) molds so i can have a few kits in spare

Ive also modded my shock strut towers to allow more camber and caster!
Pics update next weekend!

TheMonkey: Probably? I got so many advices so i just ended up with the GT35R turbo. What turbo do you prefere? My goal is still 400rwhp and i might change the turbo because of the bad Garret Ball Bearings :S

Sindre
