My 87' build-up thread...

Ok well I picked up an 87' Rx-7 from a member of another forum I frequent with the intentions of turning it into a track car. Well as of right now, the plans have turned into clean up the previous owners ****-ups. Some of this pictures are from his F/s post to show what it looked like when I picked it up. And some are ones I just took today with my $40 digital camera.

As you can see When I picked it up, it has 3 17*7.5" rims and one 15" Honda Accord rim.

It now has 2 of the 17's that had matching tire sizes on the rear with some 14*5.5's I had on my AE86 on the front.

As you can see in the above pics, it also had hideous side skirts on that are now ripped off.
When I got it, it had some pretty dingy back seats...

So they are now ripped out.

It has a pretty shitty made exhaust using all the factory parts, with a cat-delete pipe and some rice can Magna-Flow canisters.

And a current engine pic... when I picked it up, the AFM was just hanging down by the fan about to get annihilated if it would have gotten hit. So i ziptied it up for the current moment.

As I said Im in the process of cleaning her up. Im dropping the exhaust today to remove everything from the factory manifold back, then welding up a single pipe to dump right before the rear passenger tire(I love watching flames in my mirror). Comments appreciated, but if you have anything negative to say, keep it to yourself.

Thanks for looking,
-Mike

Some pics of the exhaust. This is def. a DIY thing.

Huge tips(Im not a fan of them, but they might be put to use with my design)

This is where they crushed the OEM pipe, to make sure the hanger would go to the right spot and not have the can too high.

Sad attempt for a cat-delete pipe, with the biggest weld holes Ive ever seen.

The actual tip.

And last but not least, the newest addition to my tools.

They are a godsend honestly, so easy just to roll the car around the garage depending on what area I need to get to. The only downfall is, they don't have a wheel lock. So if I lean on the car it just casually rolls with me.

If your talking about the under-car shot, the bumper is from a damn 240sx and it doubles back under the exhaust. So it goes through and has twin holes for the tips. The guy who built this thing was obviously a serious ricer. So after shes running nice and clean, its time to get all s5 aero and clean up the body.

Its been a while, Ive been "away"... I have since ordered new injector connectors, I bought a pair of 17*7's for the front of the car. They are stripped to bare metal as of now, and will be painted black along with the back wheels soon. I had a problem with the TPS, come to find out the adjustment screw and spring were completely gone. So as of right now, the car is sitting until I fab. or buy a new exhaust.

Thanks for the comments,

These are the front wheels when I got them...

As for the rear wheels, What do you guys think? Black or another color... I'm thinking black would make them look just a tad bit better. Painting the fronts too of course.

Thanks for your comments,

I'd put the fan shroud back on and the stock under panel as well to help with cooling, an overheated rotary is no fun.

good luck with this one, looks like fun.

The car came with neither. But for using them, Im going E-fan and changing the mounts figuration completely(V-mount) Simply because there is nothing better than a stock looking base model beating some ***.

I was assuming the previous owner removed them. it's common to see a removed fan shroud but I still get that bad feeling of knowing that some jack *** ricer started ripping into a poor RX7.....

Keep us posted and have a good day.

I completely agree with you. I love Rx-7's not really for the rotary or anything the like. They had style from the start to the finish. But now have driven both mine, and a buddy of mines 13B-RE 89. I'm falling ever so fast for the rotary. So my plans for right now have changed. I'm currently looking at a 88' vert as a daily and going to be buying a stock 13BT And start my own build so I know what is done, and that it is done right.

I will post a few pictures soon, as I have the new rims on. And I will be pulling the motor to sell in a few days, once done It will be time to fully strip the engine bay and give it a nice coat of super-gloss black paint. Then for the new engine with a serious wire/hose tuck and then to get it cleaner and cleaner as I go.

thanks for all the comments,
-Mike

New ignition tumbler with lock cylinder was installed. I attempted to install the S2000 push starter by the write up done on here. Well it blew the circuit so, I now have a $62 paper weight. I am going to buy a cheap little $13 momentary from the auto parts store to make sure everything is wired correctly then I will proceed to purchase another button. No pics as of yet, because my digi cam is in my truck which is parked on the side of the road because the alternator failed. So pics will be soon.

Got a few pics of the new wheels mounted on the front, before my camera died. They still need paint but for now they just hold it there.
