My 1990 GTU
Let me start off by introducing myself, my name is Luis and I have been a member of this forum for about 2 years. This is my first rx7. It's a 1990 GTU and I bought it not running. I purchased the car in August of 2007 with the intent of making a nice street car. The car only had 96,000 miles on the odometer, interior was clean as whistle, the paint was faded and blotchy because it sat under a tree for 8 years. Everything was intact and I did not have to go through the head ache of having to sort out a hack job.
Upon inspection of the car she had a blown engine. Stuck apex seals in the front rotor and a cracked coolant jacket. Eventually I ended up replacing the motor with another Na with 50,000 miles. I must say this car has been one hell of a learning experience. Unfortunately I have not gotten the car on the road yet as I have been running into problems here and there, funds also plays a big part of it.
My future plans are to turbo the car. I am probably going to go along the lines of a BNR turbo. I already have an S4 turbo and most of the parts I need to turbo it. I am going to go with a V-Mount set up.
As far as the car is right now, I had to rip the manifolds out to replace the rats nest because the lines were rusted and causing a vacuum leak. In the process I ended up breaking my water thermo sensor. I replaced everything such as the gaskets, vacuum lines, and fuel lines, including the o-rings to the injectors. As I was putting things back, I broke my Oil metering lines which I am in the process of replacing now.
My plans for the spring is to do the 5 speed swap and hopefully some paint.
Here are some pictures .
