nothing too crazy to report for today. removed and polished with some nice meguires plastic polish, all of the marker lights and front turn signal covers. really made a difference. i also started removing the over spray from the body seals. thats a daunting task..

I don't know what you are using to remove the paint from the seals, but "Goof Off" works wonders. It is usually sold at auto places for removing crayon and paint scuffs.

tonight i pulled the bins to install the oem sound deadening. i found it in my parts supply and figured i'd put it in. when i removed the bins i noticed that i never installed the wiring harness for the lights on the storage bins. the connedtor was filled with expanding foam form the previous owner so i clipped it off and wired in a new connector. now i have working lights in the bins and the nice and itchy sound insulation installed. here are the pics:

before the insualtion was installed:

insulation with wiring in place:

and finally, working lights:

I never knew there were lights in the bins. Is this AE specific? Or do all FCs have this?

Good job btw.

with the help of 82transam who is visiting from New Jersey, we got the exhaust on today and i think it sounds pretty good. i made (with the help of some machine shop friends) a cat replacement pipe for the main converter. it was rotten and clogged. i removed the pipe from the pre cat to the test pipe and sanded down the flanges on a large belt sander and made sure they were perfectly flat and that there was no warping. i also shot blasted it and bead blasted it to ensure the rust was gone. painting it is next. all gaskets were replaced with oem gaskets. at any rate on to the pics:

newly used oem y pipe:

will post a short video next...

looks like i'm also missing this car cover as well. it was an accessory but came with the pillow and bra as an optional package. i'd like to find one but i'm not going to stress out about not being able to find one. the car cover might be tough to find but there may be one out there somewhere...
I don't think the "Mazda RX-7" car cover was 10AE specific as I have one that came with my low mileage '87 T2. Presumably they were offered in '87.

Damn man, you dont take any shortcuts when it comes to restoring the car! How did you get all the road grime off, with a scraper?

brake cleaner will take the road grime and unwanted tar off of the underbody. it can also take off paint that is not cleared so be careful.

I'm not a fan of the font either but it was definitely made to fit a 2nd gen.
