Damn USPS... Took a perfectly good set of S5 coupe tails and basically ruined them. I think I can repair them... But crap. There was insurance on them anyone ever filed a claim?

Pretty pissed.

Just superglue the pieces back. Since it's on the black outside piece the cracks will barely be noticeable if you glue it right. Had to do it to mine, but oh well, a little roughness adds character!

Well only 1 piece was still in the box the rest of the pieces must have fallen out through the gaps at the seams..

Roughness adds character to a car that is already rough.. I was hoping for perfection.

lol dude I'd say you got lucky. I work at DHL and I cringe at the fact that people ship rare car parts with us when I see the way boxes are thrown, stepped on, stacked on top, etc. Its always important to use a heavy duty cardboard box rather than a weak or thin one, also use one appropriate for the item you are shipping, not oversized. You don't need any fancy wrapping material, just pack the **** out of it with newspaper or whatever. This stuff is literally THROWN onto trucks with no order whatsoever, your item could be stacked under something over 75lbs.

damn that sounded like a rant, haha. superglue should work fine.

Happened to me too. I filed a claim they gave me the run around with operators for an hour before I just hung up and gave up. Hope you have better luck if you do try to file a claim.

Newspaper is unacceptable for packing material with things like these. The newspaper doesn't provide enough cushioning and during shipping the plastic will jostle around and make contact and crack and chip. I had 2 S5 mirrors sent to me in a box and all that was used for packing material was loose newspaper. Both were ruined during shipping.

When my stuff was broken all the pieces remained in the box. If you have gaps in the seems big enough for the pieces your missing to fall through someone did a really shitty job packing those tails.

If you ever are forced to use newspaper to pack items like this you need to STUFF the box full of crumpled newspaper. There should be so much paper in the box(in between the items and between the items and the cardboard) that it is hard to close. That way the items move as little as possible. The newspaper will also continue to compress and lose its ability to absorb impact during shipping allowing the items to move more, thats why you have to try to minimize that by over stuffing the box.

FYI my mirrors were shipped USPS as well.

Frankenstein tail lights! s4 and s5 merged together!

Same happened to mine through UPS. They were bubble wrapped with the big kind. The corner was held on by a thread of the weather strip. Glued it back on and all is dandy.

They'd be ok if you put them in a wooden crate

Shippers will just toss them and pile large weighted items on top of them so no matter how cushy you package them there is always a chance they'll be crushed.

I work for USPS and im not surprised to see this. we have a new sortation system that isn't very "friendly" to unpacked boxes. regardless that sounds like a crappy packing job

i'd say nearly all the companies handle the packages the same way...its just how fast or how good the service is.

but the packaging wasn't done so well, and i suggest u advise your supplier/seller to do a better job.

I worked for a shipping company before, and had to file a claim with usps it is a major PITA claims with ups go through very fast, packages are covered with 100$ insurance automatically. If you let ups pack the product the claim will automatically covered but if you pack it and use insufficient packaging materials you will not get the money unless the box has been battered to hell and back.
