all kinds, the body was in pretty bad shape, a ton of rust and dents. i had to clean all that up and pull out the dents, the door and fender killed me. the rest that i didn't have to touch, i just scuffed up with 320 grit paper

Why bother with the fender? Did you have time to search for one local? If you were going to paint it anyways, what color you found was irrelevant.

Now the door is a PITA to exchange.

Sweet job non the less. Post after pictures when you're done plz

The original blue

I re-painted mine. Here's how it looks:
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/omg-omg-re-painted-7-a-641529/

Very dull but old-school blue.
I'm keeping mine all-stock however.

All that and you didn't bother to straighten out the molding on the passenger door. Other than that, it looks good.

so you taped it up, sanded it down with the 320, and paint-gun sprayed it with white primer? Looks damn good if so...

my passenger door and fender have the exact same damage!! I ended up buying a different fender, but I can't get my door front nearly so lined up as yours.

im actually about to start re-painting my car... im going from red to Satin Black. When did u apply the primer? all I was gunna do was sand the clear coat off, and set a coat of primer over the red... but a buddy of mine, whom has offered to lend a hand, seems to think the best way to go about this is to sand down to primer first.... any suggestions or opinions? any information would be greatly apreciated

you don't need to go all the way down to the primer. you just need to make sure you get rid of all the rust spots, and anything smooth. The key is to give the new paint something to stick to, so you can just scuff it all down with like 320 or so. Use high-build primer to cover up the minor imperfections and then wet sand the primer coat.
