I want to blow up my car right now..

So i went to the wreckers today to get a few small interior things for my car. I came across a sunroof motor and was pretty excited because mine was dead. So i got that as well and raced home to install it. I found some instructions online but no picture threads or anything in detail. Of course i went out to the garage and just started taking **** apart like a mad man.. 2 hours later and my car in 5000 pieces all over my garage.. i was pretty pissed off to realize it was the tracks and cables the whole time. So then it was a race against time to get this thing all back together before the sun went down. Did i get it back together in time? NO.. because that sunroof/dusty *** headliner weighs so damn much and is too big for one person to try and line up a tiny hole and bolt like a million bolts.

So a word of advice to all of you guys with busted sunroofs! If your going to attempt to use fix it.. make sure you have help and A LOT of beer.. probably a few packs of smokes aswell wouldnt hurt..

If anyone has a picture to where the rear drain hoses actually go into I will be extremely happy and would appreciate it very much! I am going to drive my car to a train track and leave it there if i dont figure this out soon

What have you DONE?!

I've done the same thing. One day i thought "I can fix this!" I RUINED the entire mechanism. It was so crapped out, I couldn't open it enough to reach all the bolts properly. Somehow I managed to force it, ruining everything along the way. I was able to source an entire new one (different color though) and get the damn thing back up there. I did it all myself, but it never did look the same. Oh an it still doesn't work without manually cranking it open.

Too late to say it now, but I recommend to anyone with a busted sunroof: LEAVE IT AND ACCEPT IT.

I've rebuilt my motor, wired a standalone and even did some tuning. But hell if I touch another sunroof again.

Use that big *** wing on the back on your car to support your headliner. Then you shouldnt have any problems lining the holes up

It happens to all of us. I had to leave my old honda out with the oil pan off haha, because a hail storm came out of nowhere.

Im gonna get a buddy to come over tomorrow and help me hold it up.. I realized afterwards that i was an idiot for removing the 4 brackets that hold onto the sunroof assembly and line everything up.. Since there were no good write ups online ( or at least ones that i could find ) I thought i could tackle it and take pics as i went.. The pictures only lasted about 30 minutes untill i realized i was in trouble. Then i said F*** the pictures! Im in trouble!

The neighbors, if they saw me, must have laughed watching me get the entire thing back up. I was on my back, all twisted and ****, with my legs up in the air holding one end of the sunroof up while I struggled FURIOUSLY one handed to get ANY bracket threaded and mounted. ONE HANDED BITCHES!!! The whole time I'm thinking "I look like such an idiot right now".

Beefhole - Do you remember how or where to put those stupid drain plugs on the back of the sunroof? Of course i did it the hard way and pulled them out of the body somewhere behind the pannel and not off the sunroof..

um, maybe you should have searched a bit, i know of 3 threads, off the top of my head, 1 of which i started when i went to repair the sunroof back in the day.
it REALLY isnt THAT hard, is it tedious? **** yes, is it annoying? **** yes, is it worth fixing? oh **** yes

what you REALLY need to do, backtrack a bit, look up the fsm, and learn the mechanism and how it is assembled, print out the steps if you have to.
i can replace the entire assembly myself, by myself, in under 2 hours.

heres a quick trick, take off the sunroof panel, either have someone lift it up from the outside reaching in, or guide it up, and use some c-clamps to hold it in position.

if you think the rx7 sunroof assembly is heavy, try an excursion assembly, easily ~110lbs

Uh... look for the holes!(?) Only thing I remember was when I pulled the unit out, I left the tubes in the car, and reconnected them when it was all bolted in place already. I don't remember being able to pull the tubes out like you did.

It takes a very skilled mechanic to do such fine work like that :P I was going to take it off but the piece that goes around the sunroof looked like it was never going to look the same if i took it off.. so unfortunately i didn't..

+1 to magus222. I think you need a proper workplace...or at least some lights lol.

The job is not hard, its straightforward and surprisingly you probably won't break anything major. It does require patience and it is time consuming. You shouldn't expect to have it done in a day if you've never done it before. And there are excellent write ups in this section.

Update: I took the headliner off and it was SO much easier to get it up! instead of having to try and bend the headliner around and bolt it up. I also had a buddy come over and help. Turned out that the track was just completely mangled and busted.. So i finally forced the sunroof while playing with the motor and got it back into the original closed position. Theres just one spot on one of the corners where its stuck a tiny bit up like 2mm.... Im just going to have to live with a broken sunroof. Which is fine by me.. A lot of beer, time, and some tools and i got it back HAHA Thanks guys!
