I need some advice.
Hey all,
Well, this past winter a gentleman I used to be good friends with gave me his 1986 Turbo II. The situation is that he was moving away and was unable to keep the car.
Blah blah blah, long story short. The title did not come with the car and I was given assurances that by the begining of summer, I would have it mailed to me. Since that time, he has cut off communication. At first I could call him and talk about things but now he never pics up his phone and actually, it goes straight to voicemail. (any of you who have not paid your cell phone bill know this is what happens when your phone gets cut off.)
He no longer lives in this area so it COULD be that he is just not going to use that number but there is no mention of a new number on his voicemail and he has made no attempt to reach out to me.
So, I REALLY do want to be able to drive this car legally. It needs a rebuild but I am not willing to put a dime into the car until I have the title. Right now, the car is sitting in a safe place just waiting for something to happen.
I am looking for my options here. Someone told me it is possible to force a title but I haven't been able to find any info on that here in MN. I am worried that if I can't do that, the car is now basically abandoned. I would hate to have it towed away never to be seen again. The car is too clean for that.
Any one who would be willing to chime would be much appreciated.
I am eagerly looking forward to making this car what it deserves to be.
Chris

Do NOT apply for an abandoned vehicle title! I was told to do that by one DMV here, and when I went to turn it into a different DMV, they almost arrested me! The fact that I was applying for an abandoned vehicle title after I moved it onto my property is apparently quite suspect around these parts...
What I ended up having to do is filling out a bunch of forms for a Lien of some sort, and go back to the seller and have him write me out a receipt for the sale, which I guess wouldn't really work out in your case...

Take all the info you have on the car down to the dmv. For example, the vin, the license plate number, anything he gave you (i.e. his last know address) and lay it out for them. Tell them he sold you the car and did not give you a title. I was in the same situation a few years back and did the exact same thing. They'll work with you, but you'll probably have to wait a while and run around town a lot.

Makes me glad to live in Hew Hampshire where titles to older cars are as useless as **** on a bull....Hopefully you figure something out, and DO NOT send it to the junkyard. I will buy it before that happens.
