speed up the ragtop rex
I've been reading and laughing and smiling and everything else for the last few weeks since I've joined this club. You guys seem to know your $hit and know when someone else doesn't. But now, it's time to post, I'd love anyone's advice. My 88 'vert is my baby. It may not be that fastest of the breed, but I think it's got the most style. My mods include, RB header and presilncer, Borla cat-back (LOVE the sound), K+N intake, ported throttle body, plenum and upper intake, MD racing autocross chip. tokico and eibach suspension. Yeah, that's about it. My question for you gents it this, what next, what kind of go fast parts are next or would you have done something different. I come from a town where I hear this a lot "Hey, how many cylinders does that there car got?" So the only info I get is from clubs like this and emailing guys who know what's going on. Much thanks guys

I also have a 1988 'vert. I got it to run 16.1 with just intake and exhaust. Now, here is something to think about... the '88 'vert has the same differential as AUTO NA cars- 3.909 gear ratio instead of 4.10. Changing the differential to one out of a manual transmission coupe will pep it up a bit. (Gas mileage will suffer a bit though.) Try to find one with LSD. Better yet, find a differential from a GTUs (4.30 gears) for even more pep.
Of course you can always go the route I have chosen- a TII engine/drivetrain swap. Drivetrain is done, engine is in my garage in preparation for a rebuild and porting.

p.s. the 3.909 diff is in ALL auto cars, and the 88 ONLY manual convertibles. In 89 they realized it was a bad idea and put the 4.10 differential in the manual tranny 'verts.

Yeah, it was a question. I didn't know what an S-AFC was. As for NOS, I heard that with my chip adjusting the fuel the way it does I couldn't run it bacause it would run to lean, so my question was gonna be, if I ran a wet kit that injected fuel as well, I'd be alright...right? The T2 swap has ALWAYS been in my mind. It's something I'm not comfortable enough doing myself so I'd LOVE to find someone who'd let me drop my car off and for a few G's, do it for me. Everytime I see someone on here who's got a turbo 'vert. I just get a glare of unbridled jealousy in my eyes! Would anyone recommend an ignition upgrade?
MSD makes a good ignition upgrade. Check 'em out
Unfortunately, you've done most of the big power mods already. You're going to either have to port, squeeze, or go FI to get many more gains
Everything else is just going to be little stuff... You might want to consider a lighter flywheel/clutch/pp combo and start focusing on your suspension.
If you get hold of the TII longblock, tranny, diff, ECU, pressure sensor, knock sensor, hood, and useable exhaust, it's a fairly straightforward swap.
Heck, if you get the parts, there are some guys (myself included) that will do it for not-too-much, but we're all in FL.
Time for a vacation?

Previous vert owner myself,
Put her on a diet, Remove most of the sound dampining material. This should save you about 50lbs.
Another thing I would reccomend is to put a custom roll cage in your vert. This will help stiffen up the chassis considerably.
Last but not least, Go with a streetport or a turbo conversion.

I love the look of the roadster bars on the 'vert. Can't find any, but would love to. AS far as stiffening the chasis. Last month at the big Carlisle Car show, the guy with the white 'vert was there that had the 3rotor swap, after I had asked him to adopt me and told him that he was a damned genuis. He told me that after a LOT of testing and research, Madza did such a good job with the droptop that with almost 480hp, there was practically no body flex. Made me damn proud to own a 'vert. And a think I love that guy!
And yes I would DEFINATELY drive down to Florida for the swap. No BS, if you can help me find what I need for it, I'd be all for it. I can always help turn wrenches and do parts run and I can order a HELLUVA pizza. My mechanic/brother calls me his bitch when we're at the garage.
