well sadly i have come to the conclusion that i can no longer have my FC. I'm the typical fulltime college student slapping 35-40 hours per week at work and daily driving a turbo II. the reason i start this thread is to get some "REAL" feedback on what this car is really worth since it will be going for sale sometime soon.

One thing i know for sure is that i will never get what i invested on it especially with the car needed further work in order to reach a complete restoration however i will try to squeze as much money as i can from it.

i got this car last year from a chinese student who completed school and returned to Hong Kong the car was relatively stock with the exception of a custom fabricated 3inch turbo back exhaust which i replaced with the one seen on the pictures. the everything on the engine is stock, i kept it that way to avoid blowing it. got it for 4500 and invested about 5000 putting about 9500 or so spent. i guess you guys can just look at the pictures and the list and tell me what you think. heres a list of the stuff on the car so you can get an idea of whats been done.

honestly you would probably get more by parting it out...i would say that it would sell for around $4000...unless the motor has high mileage.

I sold my 87 TII for fifty six hundred, completely stock with 65xxx miles on it. but i bought it back for fifty one hundred, so its up to you how much you think you can get id put it up for around fifty five and see what that brings.

yeah i knew i was going to hear prices ranging from 3000 to 5000 at the most, trully not what i wanted but in a way that will force me into keeping it because im sure as hell not going to let it go for that low of a price. but lets keep em comming. the parting out idea is noted however i do not have the stock parts.

my friend had told me to sell it in bone stock condition for around 4500 and then sell all aftermarket parts to make up the other 3000

Take the extra parts off (suspension, wheels, exhaust, intake etc) and swap the stock pieces back on. Ask $3000 for the car and sell the performance parts seperate. Or just ask $4200 o.b.o. for the car as is.

you almost NEVER get what you put into a car...

If you really wanna get out of it parting it out is the only way you'll get some $ back. Why not just keep it? rent s garage and store it as a toy for every now and then

Honestly, I think you could get 4000 to 4500 out of it.

In my mind modding is a slippery slope for resell, you will rarely get what you put into it.

I would agree with others of returning the car to close as stock as you can get it and then selling your parts separately.

If you lived in canada you could probly get away with about $7k. T2's up here are way more authentic and not nearly as common as n/a's. Honestly the only way your going to get the money out of this car is to part out and sell the car as a bone stock t2.

By the way, who the hell is the dipshit that started the whole performance world on thinking if you have performance parts on the car its not worth ****? I think its bs, and this car is clearly worth atleast $7-8k in my opinion. The market up here is where it should be but down in the states t2's are selling horribly low.

I don't see why you couldn't get $5k+ for it. It looks like a clean well kept car that's ready to participate in any time of motorsport or be a fun street car.

I think the thing that keeps it from being a 5k car are the following items, don't get me wrong its a nice car and a great starting point for most RX7 enthusiast. Everyone's tuning/modding taste is different and most likely a lot of the things will be removed, changed and/or upgraded.


- lacks an engine rebuild
- engine modifications
- turbo upgrades
- Most of the items listed are visual upgrades, audio enhancements, and regular maintenance items.
- removed AC

This is why I said that upgrading is a slippery slope for resell. After all the upgrades you have put on your car (already in a niche market), you have to hope that the people looking at your vehicle have the same taste you do.

Like I said I'm not trying to pee in your corn flakes, It's just the way it works.

When all is said and done on my 7, I'm sure my total invested value will be close to the 30k mark, if something happened and I had to sell I doubt I could get 10k for it.

Actually if the engine is running strong I'd pay more to have an authentic Mazda OEM engine that came with the car. If it was rebuilt who knows if a coolant seal was pinched or what internals were used and how well/correctly they were put into place. When i buy a car i like for it to be as original as possible except maybe new starters and alternators etc.

its so nice and i would really hate to see it go to a person who will change it and do it wrong and not take care of it at all.

you built it and your the only one to take care of it...my friend mark built two z31s the last one he had he put so much time and money into it and he decided to sell it. the guy he sold it to was cruising with him on the free way and some drunk mother ****** came out of now where and caused the z to crash and total on the freeway my friend mark was in the car behind him and watched his z die in front of him. dont let your seven get any where near that situation.

Alright, I'll play odd man out here.

Do NOT part out the car.
Stripping off all the parts you've so lovingly assembled will involve a lot of time and effort. People tend to forget (or at least, discount) the amount of time it takes to post ads, deal with the flakes and finally (if you're lucky!) boxing up and shipping.
Then, cross your fingers and hope things arrive in good shape and the buyer is happy.

Secondly...I wish I lived where all these $4K bidders are.
Here in Colorado RX7s are rare as hen's teeth and even a POS NA will command over two grand. Probably more cars to choose from on the coasts but in the midwest, pickins are slim.

I'd ask $7500 and drop to $7k if necessary.
While it's certainly true you never get what you put into 'em, there's no need to take a bath on this sale.
Assuming the compression/oil pressure are good (and I'd put the figures in the ad if they are), just ask a potential buyer this, "What else can you buy that's comparable for 7 grand?".

id say around 6 as well if you find the right buyer.. its all about how you present the car and market it.. esp put it on craigslist ...
hard to ask that here because some people will say its not worth much.. esp if you list it for sale, people will jus say thats too much etc

true but if he never sold that car it would have never been on the freeway that day he sold it to get hit by that drunk driver, who was driving a stolen vehicle...

everyone told him not to sell it because he built that car with his heart but he did. in fact the guy who bought it from him still owes him 500 for the rest of the payment of the car. he keeps avoiding us even though we know his friends and know where he lives, he still wont fork over any money nor find a job.

yeah i totally know what you mean, my old black FC (the one on my sig) got pretty smashed up by the new owner and by the looks of it it wasnt his fault, but i still felt real bad when i saw the pics of my old FC all smashed when i put soo much wrench time.

clokker; you are definately a smart man, and im sure as hell NOT parting her up, i put lots and lots of man hours and love into this car and would hate to part her out. im also not going to set the price anywhere near the 4000's. Turbo II in this condition are hard to get even here in southern cali.

hypertech; long time no talk, yes the car is already listed on craigslist for 6950 FIRM!!!! im going to see how that goes, if it dosnt sell i'll be forced to keep it and i know i'll be pretty happy if it does not sell. if it does well then it was meant to be however i wont be too exited about it since the future car i will be having after the FC will be a piece of crap 91 honda civic 4 door by the way i think i might have seen your old 240sx down here in the el cajon area.

It's definitely a nice TII. The price difference between a total pile and a super nice FC, turbo or not, is too little, honestly. I would say this is a good 5k-5.5k car, maybe 6k if the buyer really loved it.
