hood dampers

got some hood dampers installed on my non running fc today. i was surprised by the fact that they held up my steel na hood. they were decently priced too around 65-70 ebay. sure beats the 160 dollar tein dampers that arent even made for fc's. well just wanted to share if anybody else was interested.

workin on taking the motor out due to no compression and working on rebuilding and installing an s5 t2 motor. yes i am going to paint the bay once the motor is out and the hood as well. actually the whole car as a matter of fact.

just seein what you guys think.

whats the merit to having those over the normal "stick" holding it up? just seems like a waste of money when there is already something to hold the hood up that doesn't fail (unless you break it)

they mount into hole that are already there. a ball bolt onto the fender and a bracket that you just bolt into the hood hinge.

i honestly see no point or reason to have them. except the fact that there just convenient kinda and looks good. but yeah they will eventually go out. but for now i like them.

No stick in the way when you pop the hood to work on the car. Bling factor, just pop the hood lift up a bit and it opens the rest of the way itself.

Bingo. Can't even tell you how many times I've smacked that thing out of the hole with my elbow or whatever and had a 300LB hood slam down on my head...

What I'd like to see is a shot of the back edges of the hood with those installed, is there a huge gap like the ones for the RX8s?

I just installed the Ebay shocks on our vert project. I figured I would give them a shot, if they were junk, I would just pitch them and keep the hood prop. Honestly they work great on the aluminum hood. About half way up, the shocks take over and it lifts by itself. I am very pleased with them.

Do they feel like they would be too stiff for a fiberglass or CF hood? I'd hate to get them only to have them start cracking the hood!

Considering it bolts to the outside of the metal hinge and they are much shorter than the FD versions, I think you will be alright. I was just checking the amount of pressure to drop the TII hood, and it is not extreme, once it gets about half way down it has almost no upward force on it. Hope that helps.
