GordiniRX7's 87 TII Build Thread

I figured that it's finnally time for me to make my own official build thread.
I recently got a Gold 1987 TII that is in need of major work, and this will be my daily, too.
I will use this thread to ask(and hopfully get some answers) all my questions, as I have a lot!
I love to take pictures, but like most people, I get too caught up in stuff that I forget to take pictures, so I'll try my best.

Okay, so like I said, this will be my daily driver once I get it running. And I dont plan on cleaning it untill then. I work at a carwash so Im going to drive it there and clean the crap out of it. so dont mind the little bit of dirt for now.

Here are some of the pictures that I got to fall in love with for a couple months before I got to pick it up.

(please ignore the spelling mistakes. Im really tired.)
The previous owner's plans for this car had something to do with racing and V8s (I saved it? We'll see) but he had too many projects so I bought it from him.

Heres the day I picked it up and the drive home.

I know, what a nice -original- hood.

The other night I was finnally able to get into it and see what I got, too bad it was too dark for detailed pictures.

More to come later...

Last night I went to buy some stuff.

I went off the info on Rotory Reserection about emissions removal
6' - 5/16" fuel line
6' - 5/32 vacuum line
bunch of vacuum caps
bunch of tees and splitters
several hose clamps
and Ultra Black Sealant.
I have my block off plate kit comeing as well.

When I went to use my brakes getting the car off the trailer, they did nothing and i bounced off a little tree. So Im going to put the car on jackstands for a bit to bleed the system and check for any faults.

Can anyone tell me what the I.D. of the factory exhaust downpipe gastket is? I got these generic 3" header collector gastkets for now and am wondering if they will fit.

This morning before work, I rode my bike to pep boys and picked up a haynes manual since I left my old one in my old RX7 when I sold it.

I Just finished going through the entire thing.

I have BIG plans for this car, but for now, I have to get it running since I'm stuck on my bike.

Hopefully I'll have a better paying job soon and I can start with the mods. or else its gonna take me over a month to save up for one of my wheels(hint at my intentions).

I got to the junk yard today to get some misc. parts but wasnt able to do any wrenching.
I am confused on where to start, however, on the engine. I plan to remove all the emissions, including the charcoal canister, the cruise control, and redo all of the vacuum lines. But I dont know where to start. Can anyone tell me what I can and should take off?

So are you getting a new motor-set to replace that busted looking thing in your engine compartment? I'm excited to see some progress on this car, you've got a lot of work ahead of you!

Motor-set? I don't have a motor. Engine, maybe. I plan on getting this to run for now. And when time and money can afford it, I'll rebuild it with a medium-large streetport. But hopfully that wont be for several months.

I've read Rotary Resurection's article on emmissions removal several times and I feel a little more confident now. I'll replace all the external engine gastkets and clean everything up as good as I can. Hopefully my block off plates come in soon. Then I'll paint the intake manifolds a subtle color.

Untill then, since my rear differential is out of the car, I'll change the fluid in it, and clean it real good and paint it as well.

To clean the engine bay, should I use Simple Green, or an actual degreeser like Purple Power or the like? Whatever's most effective, and wont ruin the finish if I rub too hard.

i havent tried simple green. i tried purple power, and it worked pretty good for me, even when i diluted it with water. parts cleaner works like a charm too.

I got a big thing of Simple Green and two big cans of carb cleaner. Is there a way to clean the intake runners? Mine are pretty rough.

Okay, can anyone tell me where these things go?
I know that the purple is from the brake booster, but I forgot where it goes. And I know that the red is a coolant hose but I'm not sure where it goes, I understand that in Rotary Resurection's(Kevin's) article on emissions removal, this is plugged up and sealed, but where does it go?

Also, why does that article not disscuss or mention the swtching actuator on the factory turbo, or the solenoid needed to run it? Is his article intended more for aftermarket turbos?

Edit: That's not my engine, btw.

damn dude hope you didnt pay much for it. they haynes is a good start, but you need to clean it out and organize all the parts before you even want to start. The red circled item is for the thermowax unit has about a 1.5in tube coming out of the bottom of the throttle body. replace that kinked up piece of rubber with a L shaped elbow from the local auto parts store. The purple circle has a rubber s shape hose which is missing in the pile of ****, but you can get 3/8 fuel hose by the foot still at the local auto part store and attach it to the only big nipple on the bottom of the uim. replace all your fuel line hoses, buy OE injector grommets and o rings and replace, replace that leaky fire hazard pulsating dampner with a solid unit... YOU HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO, but with some persistance you can do it no problem you just need to turn wrenches and get dirty.

fc3spro.com/
and a bunch of searching this forum(upper SEARCH button int the tool bar)
and reading the haynes

Small update.
Got these bad boys in the mail today.

I haven't test fitted them yet. But they appear to be pretty good quality. Tomorrow morning I'll buy some more important stuff and hopefully get them by sat. That way I can get a bunch of work done on the car this weekend.

-Take everything off the engine. including water pump.
-install block off plates.
-clean and paint.
-replace gastkets.
-run new emmissions and fuel lines.
-re-install everything with fresh gastkets.

Then, I might be missing some things, like part of the intake tubing, and other misc. things. So I'll have to wait for that and my 2 exhaust gastets.

I also need to get the car up to bleed my brakes and figure out what is missing from the bottom.

So it's safe to say that I should have a Longgg weekend. lol

No update, but I did get to go look at the car today and drop some stuff off. Had my camera but only took one picture, kind of a shitty day.

It probably wont be a while until I can get some actual work done on the car. But I'll continue to collect parts.

You know, lots of people ask me that, and I'm starting to ask myself that too. buuuttt I love this car. It doesn't look like much, because it isnt , I know that it has potential. It'll get there soon enough. I've gotten a couple more parts in, but I'm waiting for my last item to post an update.

So, question. What should I do about this. I don't want to put my molding back on until I do something about this...

Take it down to bare metal and paint it?

Is that right at the door? If it is I'd say just replace it, it would be alot easier then having to do all the work and you wouldn't have to worry about the rust again.

It's in the middle of the door, where the black trim goes. I suppose I could try that. I plan on repainting the car anyways, a "different" color.
