Well after 4 years of searching up and down the internet and newspaper pages I found my 1990 NA Rx7 Got it for a steal too causs the door locks were busted (Easy fix) Here's a pic of my new baby.


I had planned to do ALOT with this car and then as I was sleeping at 1 in the morning some drunk decided to side swipe my car as it was parked on the road...


The damage doesn't look to bad in that image but its alot worse in reality...Took to body shop and they quoted me 7G's. Of course that drunk doesnt have the money so insurance it is and from the way everythings going they're going to write off my seven
I would fix everything myself but I have neither the money or time right now and I don't see why I should have to pay for it anyways.
Now I'm looking for a new seven but there's no good one's for sale here!!!!
I'm just thankful I wasn't in the car or I didn't invest 1000's of dollars into it yet but still it really pissed me off. If the cops weren't there I'd have ripped him a new one....

happy that you weren't in there and safe dude, sorry to hear about the drunks, i feel you on the cop situation, a nice punch to the face would help sober him up.....

 

Hopefully the drunk will die before he takes out someone innocent.

Fight it.....that is not 4 thousand dollars worth of damage. A1990 gxl blue books for 3,900.

If you can prove it by finding parts cheaper, you might be ok... how much is a fender, door wheel and mirror? Not 7 grand by any stretch.

If not....they sometimes give you a relitively cheap buyback....

7k they are smoking crack... jus needs used fender and mirror and paint... that body shop would sit on 6k profit. that car looks too good to be written off.... shame

If it's as nice as the pics make it look, that car is well worth saving.

I'd kill to find a nice S5 non-sunroof, no spoilered car.

A fender, a mirror and a wheel- you were going to put different wheels on it anyway, right?- and you're good to go.

 

+1 on a fender, door, mirror, and rim not costing 7k....hell I am sure with out paint you can get away with $300 to fix all that.

 

i agree with everyone else. you can probably find a red fender and door for pretty cheap here on this forum. do not let them write it off!

Your local state laws should allow them to pay you within $1 of a total loss, if you take the full amount the car will be a salvage title car.

I'm trying to fight it believe me. They told me it's not just body damage apparently there's suspension damage as well but I'm going to go take a look myself tomorrow since they're closed today and see what's really going on. Thanks everyone for your input am looking for a fender and door right now, if I can find all the parts and get them I'm sure I can convince the insurance company to pay for it i mean they're only in this to save as much money as they can anyways right? But first I'm going to go see what this suspension bullshit is all aboot.

 

that sounds like shenanigans to me. Suspension damage? You didn't run into a curb, and from the photographs the impact looks to have literally "swiped" the car, and there wasn't an actual IMPACT so to say. All of your suspension components should be intact, as the force of the car was going parallel with the FC while it was parked.

Here's a poorman's suspension check: Does it drive straight? Does it drive straight when you let go of the wheel? If yes, IMO - you're safe.

If not, I'd get my car aligned and have them check that out before I give anybody else a dime.

Please do not get rid of this gem. It's a diamond in the rough.

 

total it out and then buy it back with the money you get. fix it up for a few hundred and you are good to go.

 

Besides life obviously trying to tell you not to have an rx7 right now, it's really not that big of a deal. Suspension? That sounds like crap! Get under the car and look to make sure there isn't something we can't see physically wrong with it but from the pictures, I highly doubt it.

 

perhaps you can price together the parts from a reputable retailer, make a checkout list from them and show the insurance company the cost of parts, and see if they will cut a check for you, then turn around and source out used parts for a fraction of the cost and put the rest towards paint/wheels whatever.

and you door can be straighten with pliers and some rubbing compound will clean up the scratches.

GTUs.. dont let them total it out. thats a pretty sought after car. easy fix with a fender wheels and door. i would laugh at anyone that told me it has suspension damage.

 

its not that bad. ditch the ugly rims, get new fender, get new mirror, bend teh door back in place

might as well tell insurance "nah nevermind the car is ok"... once you even mention an accident to insurance, they throw it in your cars record.

 

Yeah like I said I'm going to go check what they're talking aboot for suspension damage, I'll even take some pic's to make sure eh. My dad's been working in the autobody industry for round 30 years (Retired now) but he said the insurance company could prob give me a cash settlement and let me keep the car as long as the price is right. Then I could use that get the parts, new wheels, paint, etc...... There is still hope for this GTU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very true, I had this happen on a 240sx I had, which is where I got the money to rebuild my 13bt. Guy plowed into me while I was turning left and hit the rear quarter.

Bought Originally for $2550. Totaled 1990 240sx they paid me about $2500 or so, then I paid like $300 to get the car back. Had it inspected and got it titled. Another funny thing I ended selling it to a friend with the damage for $1000 cause I thought the title was salvage, turns out its not? Why, I dunno? Insurance Total is different than Frame Damage Totaled? The Car actually drove fine, it was just body damage.

lol @ non functional door locks though, you gotta love these cars. That must have been a good bargaining tool when buying the car, "the damn door locks don't even work, wtf!"

Seriously though the thing needs a fender (-$50), a mirror (-$50) and some paint. Get some cheap Vert wheels or have your wheel repaired. Thats like a $200 fix.

 

First off sorry to hear it. And once again on board with everyone eles. I refuse to believe there is structure dammage (namely the side skirt that holds the fender) If there is any sort of suspension dammage, which I believe could be possible due to that wheel getting hit. Odds are the most it is, is a bent control arm or something to that effect. Which even then i kinda doubt. Just check you suspension. Measure it out from the opposite side to see if everything is in check. Hope it works out dude.

 

Why are so many people against taking the money?

How much would buy-back be? It can't be more than a few hundred. So you total it, buy it back, come out with some cash, enough to fix it yourself and buy another car.

So that makes it a salvage. Big deal. Were you gonna try and sell it for profit later?

 

Take the Money..BUY another car..
KEEP(or buy this car back) 'accidented car".Use it as a Track Monster..it is already dinged up.so you won't give a Flying FIG if you hurt it again!

I realize this is a cheap fix prob will take cash and buy it back, fix it up etc, etc. then maybe buy another seven as a daily and use this one as my project Only problem is we got 4 cars takin up space right now lol going to have to rent out a storage garage and work on it there! Anyways, found some parts for like $200 + shipping, so now I just gotta wait for the stupid system to work itself (In other words raise hell until I get my car back!) Thanks all again!!!
