There is still gonna be some ariflow through there man. Yes you will lose quite a bit of air due to restiance but traveling at 30+ mph air will pass. I sealed up the sides of my intercooler where the gaps are with CTK tool box foam and have a underpanel beneath it to seal it up. I am currently fabricating a top sheet to go from the top portion of my cut bumper TO the intercooler to direct air from going over the top.

This looks good BUT I am a total perfectionist and I would have made sure the cuts are perfectly straight and the same degree of angle. By the way go crew chiefs!! Prior F-16 cross trained crew chief, now weapons and PW 220 engine technician.
The picture was taken from a little to the left. It was cut a little better than it looks. I really like yours Murray. Its probably the most clean looking cut bumper I've seen and really does look natural. Avoiding the ricey and too aggressive aftermarket bumpers out there yours is probably the best route to take when using an fmic.

As far a being a crew chief. I'm trying to palace chase right now. Having 31 E models and not even being manned for 24 is driving us crazy. But good luck to you.

If you take your time and measure, etch and cut with the PROPER tools it will look great. Paint the cut portion and most people cant tell.
And yours of course, its hot! Your car is just a given though, I didn't have to comment.

Thanks buddy. I am haapy with how it turned out. I hope the palace chase works out for you. I understand the feeling of being undermanned and over tasked. Best of luck to you and you will enjoy the ANG. Merry Christmas too!

When done right the bumper cut outs will look good.

I removed the grille part off mine the cut about 3/4" around the mouth of the front.

When you cut out the grille the areas where it molded to the sides will leave ugly holes or cut outs.
What I did there was plastic welded those areas with the same material then a bit of bondo work and walla clean as can be.

Oh almost forgot in order to keep the bumper from been all flimsy i sprayed the whole inside with GREAT STUFF a foam bonding material . It made the bumper skin super stiff and also will help with the bumper supper since most of the safety crap was removed.

Yes, I do think that looks awful. Your hacked up bumper is cut way to far out. Just take a look at the massive gaps of nothing above your intercooler and make your self believe it looks good.

???? There are no "gaps" of nothing bro. I used black high density foam above both endcaps and have a fabricated shroud that goes from behind the top portion of the bumper TO the top of the core. Air is only going through that mother ******, not around it.

To each ther own man. I was happy with the temp decrease and the money I saved not going to a kit.

You have yourself a good new year.

I noticed this too when I cut out my grille. I filled in those gaps and it makes the cutout grille area look 100X cleaner.

Cool idea. Do you think it might make the bumper too stiff and make it more prone to shattering if hit with debris? Which kind of Good Stuff did you use?

BTW Alex, what happened to your build thread? I can't seem to find it.

Its under eye candy, but man i havent updated that thread in months because you know how it is once you get it running u start spending more time driving and fixing stuff that pictures and builds take a pause for a while.

My future is looking promising so I am heading to a new direction in building and tuning my cars. I will still be rotary but right now I need something more reliable and updated. I will stop there because i dont want this thread to start into something else.lol

Now the Great Stuff i used is the same one they sell at homedepot, it makes it stiff enough to where it doesnt bend like the skin does when you remove all that useles rubber. But its worth it because you dont get tha soggy front lip effect where most of the bumpers I have seen.

Try it bro you will love the extra support. And it will actually be better for you because thats fresh paint.

You can but when the front bumper is cut up right it will get plenty air. Also the area between the fmic and the radiator is pretty good too. No big parts or chasis metal obstructing the flow. What i did for mines was build some solid angle mounts for the fmic so it can sit in an angle and flush with the bumper.

Here's mine. The only part I'm not to sure about is the way the cuts to the bumper make my end tanks look triangle shaped even though they are not. They're just inside the bumper.
