Is the FC scene dead?

Even now I almost never see rotary cars that are not RX-8's but FB's, FC, and almost no FD though they show up but are always priced for about 15k
I find FB's for sale or being fixed up all the time but never get driven around xD

I haven't seen an RX-7 in person in about 3 years. RX-8's all the time.
I personally moved to the GT86/FR-S/BRZ crowd. A lot of us are over there. I'll hop back into a fc after I buy a house. I look at fd's though I just love the 2nd gen ore than my desire to own one. Have had it planed since I left this forum.

I wave at all the RX8s in my area!!! The only one that waves back is my friend that helped me with my TII swap. Even the most common rotary owners, RX8 owners, seem like they aren't even part of the rotary community. No waving or anything. I waved at a guy with an RX8 in a parking lot and he gave me a look like he had no idea why I was waving. Makes me sad like I have no friends.

lol yes, i see rx8 owners MUCH more than any other previous gen. and they almost never recognize/acknowledge the car. not like when you cruise by another fc. and yes, s13 drivers will usually toss up a wave. same with miatas. it does make me feel like many of them aren't aware of what's under there hood. but then, not every car owner is

I get Miata guys waving all the time. I see a few FC's now and then but most are beat up. Lots of clean FD's though.
I'm coming up on 49 and drive an 88. I like the simple things that handle well.

I have some discontinued 17" Work VS-XX in FC fitament that I want to put on my GXL but they are worth the same as the car with tires. Kind of makes me sad.
Eh, some day the old rotorheads will create a scene again. It's just not now.

I really want a nice FC again that wasn't poorly rebuilt and falls apart after 5k miles but yeah it's getting hard to find rotary cars in my general state.
I'm 21 and wont go piston again. I've had 3 American piston engines and they all fell apart just driving them to work. I think Mazda and Honda were the only cars to never leave me stranded. Even though I don't like Honda as much anymore.

FC scene is dead.
Before you decide all hope is lost, there are a few of us out here genuinely interested in cars. I can’t speak on behalf of my generation in it’s entirety, but rather only my peers. My peers seem to have at the least a very rudimentary interest in cars, although it is possible this is just because we’re now coming of age to get our licenses, so it may just be the novelty factor playing in. In addition to that we’re from a more suburban area and have no public transit here. Bro trucks are very common at my school. To be completely honest I didn’t buy my first cell phone until a month or two ago simply because I’d rather spend my money on other things (read: CARS!). I only use my phone for talking to ladies, and occasionally wasting a few minutes at work. I don't understand how some people can sit there on the stupid little bricks for hours on end. Facebook is not that interesting people.
My generation is all talk no game. They make these big elaborate plans for what they’d like to do in their futures, but don’t commit. They’re mesmerized by the media and celebrities who have all these material possessions, and strive to be that person. These kids expect to be wealthy, but are too lazy to commit to any real labor. They’ll pick up something and set it down a minute later because its “too hard”, and proceed to complain because they aren’t having their life catered to. I guess they’re fine working for the man making pennies their whole life.
Personally I find the most gratification from these kinds of trades. I love building things, working with tools and tangible items, etc. After I graduate I plan on taking an apprenticeship at my mothers work to be a machinist in their shop while I go to school. I was actually talking to the ex. CEO of the company my mother works for (She was an Executive Assistant while he was the CEO) and he had told me the reason he instituted the apprenticeship program was because there are too many college grads and not enough tradesmen.
THIS. My FB is not fast by any stretch of the imagination (I’m fairly certain it’s slower than my old SOHC auto neon), but is one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven. There is something so very gratifying about the rotary, but I can’t explain it. The car makes you work for that feeling, really using each gear to its full potential. Perhaps its the smoothness, the sound, or the RPM range that makes it such a fun engine. I wish Mazda would make another small pickup with a rotary.
He's not kidding... 2010 Lexus LS460 Sport engine bay...
yea, not a lot of this gen are interested in manual labor/trades. the gov here in bc are really pushing it hard since our economy thrives on trades. offering extremely generous completion and incentive grants to kick start the youth into trades programs. your tuition and material cost are much more than covered by these grants. and then there's the crazy discounts that snap-on and mac offer to apprentices. each of them offer a one time use of 50% off everything. that's just nuts.
i mean, if this generation is bad, at the rate youths interest in manual labor trades is declining, think of how bad the next and then the next after will be

While trying to be realistic, a 182hp car isn't impressive for a younger guy that can buy a Mazda 3 with almost the same Horsepower. Weight to power ratio isn't the same, I know, but people are bragging about hp nowadays and 200 isn't powerful by today's standards.
I think it is something about the way rotaries run that even the slow ones feel like they are going really fast. I've had a lot of people ride with me in other cars, and getting on the highway at like 70 they'd freak out and tell me to slow down and then see the speedometer.
Less people work on cars due in large part to the direction of automakers, so it's both ironic and hilarious that automakers/marketing people's plans to sell more cars and increased engineered obsolescence actually had the long-term affect we are seeing now where cars are now in less demand.

I am going to start buying obd 1 cars up and sitting on them. anytime I need a $1200+ scan tool to do basic maintenance on my cars is ******* ridiculous.
Going to buy some land and become the next landon. Horde these sons of beeches as well.

Interesting convo and statements here. Although I never want the scene to die, and I don't think it ever will...at the same time, if it was 'booming' then we wouldn't be driving in unique cars. If I were in Japan, I don't think I'd want an FD since it's likely there would be plenty of them, I'd probably want something American to be unique lol. It's nice going to car shows and having the only rotary powered vehicle there, or rx7 etc.

I didn't get to see as much FDs as I expected to, but I saw enough. I have yet to see an FC in Japan, though!

When I was in Japan, every day I'd see FC's and FD's, never saw an FB though. I'm in Metro Detroit as well, and I thought it was dead here, this last week I've seen quite a few FC's, guess everyone is taking them out now that the weather is nice. I do wish the Michigan scene was bigger though, at least it's a tight, close nit group, eh.

I don't think the scene is dead its just nobody wants to get together and meet up. I have only 2 friends with rx8's now but the further we go up in Idaho the more rotary fans we meet and it seems like they want nothing but to meet how the old rotary scene use to be like. FB's FC's and FD's.
the lower you go like where i'm at RX8 owners don't even know they have a rotary car and brush me off like crazy cause they think they are better.
But when I meet other people who have Classic like muscle they all want to see my engine bay. Why can't I feel that special with the guys around here? Hell even the Mazdaspeed3's wanna race me and hangout for fun?
the scene isn't dead it just takes the right crowed of people to be interested in cars themselves not just buying a sports car because its cool that everyone else is. That was my firs mistake when I purchased my 2nd gen I maintained her like crazy but lost her in the end due to respect issues. Vowed never to make that mistake again.
