FC Coilovers selection
I am looking to purchase some coilovers for my FC. I am looking to put 17"s on it after. There are lots of brands and prices and have herd mixed reviews bout lots. I was looking to get opinion on which route i should take and which coilovers i should go with.
I would like the coilovers to fallow under...
1. Priced around 1000 shipped and below. really looking in the 800 area but i know you get what you pay for.
2.Go low enough to tuck my 17"s.
3. Have adjustable front camber plates.
4. last a good amount of time.
I have looked around and this is what i have come up with/seen/herd...
1. D2 racing coilovers. Around 930 shipped (close to price range), go low, camber plates, But i have herd them blow out and seize up on 240sx's a lot.
2. Godspeed Type RS. Great price 600 shipped. camber plates, but i have herd the dont go low.
3.KSport Kontrol Pro Coilovers. Look good. Price is bout right. 877 shipped (from what ive seen). but dont know how low they go or if they are reliable.
4. Megan racing coilovers. Camber plates. good price 880 shipped. dont know how low they go.
4. BC racing. look good and herd good things about them. just a lil high on the budget. around a grand shipped.
let me know what you think and have herd and if you can answer any of my questions about each coilover set i have listed and you opinion. Thanks a lot!

From this list i would choose BC i guess...
D2 and k-sport are the same, just different colour.
Godspeed is crap
BC is so-so
i would never even pick one of them for real.
If i were you i would spend just a little more and you'll have something that'll last for many years!
I got the silkroad RM/A8 on it for almost 6years
Street and track abuse, more features then a standard Tein setup. no issues at all and the adjustment rings are not rusted till this day unlike the cheaper sets.
I think this set is cheaper now then it was back in the day, i paid 1500 for it

My suggestion is you go powered by max coilovers. Brand new 1,100$ and used around 850-900. These are the third coilovers I have owned and thes have given me my money's worth. I've had Megan and I sold them 2 weeks after. Also had ksport and those were alright but still wasn't confmy stance. So I went powered by max. They look sick. They feel great. I'm 3 fingers off the ground and can go lower. Great fitment also.

powered by max coilovers are what I would like to get. I got megan racing now, nothing wrong with them, they are plenty for the street, I just desire a better brand.

Caution though, they are pretty stiff, one of the stiffest spring rates out of all the typical low 1k coilovers. They also change the caster in the front.
Stance is another good brand, a few guys here rock them.
The problem with budget coilovers is you will always have to defend them when speaking about them haha

Stance are nice, only issue is adjusting them is a pita. And for the same price you can get Tein Flex. Thats what I have and they feel the same as my friends Stance Gr+. Teins are great cuz I can set them up for AutoX/Track, and Drift and works great for both.

^This.
Not to slam the lower brands but just search around: most people who buy those cheaper brands end up dumping them as soon as they can. If you are really set on one of those cheap coilover brands, don't buy it new!
Honestly though I wouldn't buy any of those. I've been on my Cusco coilovers for over 6 years and I haven't had any problems either. They are only the Comp-S', but I'm telling you that even the entry level of a higher-end coilover with less features is going to perform better than your Megans or D2/KSport etc. And really, I won't even consider anything less than the top level AL+ Stances or Zeal function XS' to replace them with, given that my current ones retail for around 1600 and have worked flawlessly.
I'd suggest to just wait a few paychecks and save up a bit and get something you'll really be happy with instead of buying twice.

im with flash, i have zeal function xs with full delrin suspension bushings and poly urethane motor/tranny/subframe bushings.
i could never immagine anything cheaper, the spring rates of cheaper coilovers is always super high, and most of the time not even.
i have heard of tein super streets being very good, but i personally wont touch tein

I was glancing at Tein at first, but did some searching first. Everyone said Tein was good and its easy to find a shop that can rebuild them.
Then someone stepped out and made the statement: if it needs to be rebuild, its just not good enough...
That guy was also running the Silkroad set for some years, so i followed his advice.

Just look at your options. Personally, I'm saving up for the Ksport GT Pro Damping System. I've seen them as low as $1,292 with free shipping.
Ksport GT Pro Key Features ($1292):
Tein Super Street W/ PbUM ($1390) Key features:
Stance GR+ ($1395) Key Features:
So if you are willing to spend the little extra money over your budget, these are the three I would be setting my eyes on.
Ksport GT Pro Key Features ($1292):
- Inverted steel shock absorber for durability
- Lower center of gravity and higher chassis rigidity
- Designed to reduce friction for cooler shock oil temperature
- Inverted design like vehicles in WRC and all JGTC cars
- 36-way adjustable damping
- Made from high quality 6061 Aluminum with T6 for increased hardness
- Compression/Rebound adjustable
- Adjustable spring perch for height adjustment, Adjustable body allowing maximum suspension travel
- Pillow Ball Top Mount w/ adjustable camber (not available for some models)
- Monotube High Pressure Design reduces oil leakage
- Electroplated body for protection from corrosion and rust
- One Year Limited Warranty
- F: 7.2K / R: 6.2k (spring rates)
Tein Super Street W/ PbUM ($1390) Key features:
- Steel Construction
- Twin Tube internal construction
- 16 way adjustable dampers, compression and rebound combined
- Ride Height adjustable via spring seat
- Pillow ball upper mounts for increased steering feel (some applications may include hardened rubber mounts instead of pillowball type)
- Upper camber adjustment on front for strut type vehicles
- Larger piston diameter for strut type front and rear (22mm)
- Powder coated damper body with Zinc coated threaded section
- 1-year Manufacturers Defect Warranty
- can't find spring rates
Stance GR+ ($1395) Key Features:
- 15-Way Damping Adjustable
- Adjustable Camber Uppermount
- Pillowball Uppermount
- Cold Wound Linear Spring
- Inverted Monotube Shocks
- Dustboot
- Aluminum Collars & Upper Mounts
- Height Adjustable Lower Bracket
- F: 8k / R: 7k (spring rate)
So if you are willing to spend the little extra money over your budget, these are the three I would be setting my eyes on.

everyone has their own opinions on them. Just start looking at the brand in general.
I used to work at a bodykit company who did wholesale with tein when i was like 18, i used to do pick ups from there and I really like their office and back ground.. I later on had an interview there a few years later for assistant marketing but didn't make it. But I feel strong about the company. I used all tein in my 240sx. They got a damper controller, edfc that is pretty nice , so you can adjust the dampers from inside the car, but it isn't really necessary.
Powered by max /or Parts Shop Max, has a small shop in San Diego, but i believe it is a japanese company. The products look really good, and are popular in the 240sx crowd, they are not junk.
Can not go wrong with Stance, I hear nothing but good about them. Alot of rx7 guys here will stand behind them.
Zeal is baller stuff, good stuff too but If i recall, are more pricey, but you get good stuff for the price.

I've had several sets of cheap coilovers, and they've never been worth it in my opinion. You're better off spending a little coin on a good set. I had a set of Tein Basic coilovers on my last car (although it wasn't a 7), and while they didn't have all the features of the cheaper kits, it rode a hell of a lot better and handled better, too. I honestly think most people who want a suspension for their street car want something like the Tein Basics (progressive spring, height adjustment). In all reality, as long as the car can be aligned properly, you probably won't need things like shock adjustment or camber plates. I'm not sure of what your goals are, but I do think it's prudent to look at what you'll be using the car for and be realistic about what you really need.
Having said all that, if I were buying coilovers for an FC, I'd spend $1500 (or whatever they cost now) on a nice set of Silk Roads. Anything less would be spent on something like the Tein Basics (which I paid under a thousand for, shipped, btw).

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If you're just going to cruise in your car & barely drive it hard get some Stance GR+ or Max's.
If you're going to drive hard/autocross/track, stay away from Japanese coilovers. Although that's really hard to do because lol there's barely any European coilovers for the FC. In general for me I rank, Europe, America, Japan as the quality of springs/shocks/coilovers. But that's just with my experience and my two cents. Take it as you will.

max are "drifting coilovers". there cool for cruising but you feel why they are so good when you drift. my bro also uses stance for drifting and there also great. max and stance are more of a coilover that you use on tracks of mountain runs. if your going to be just cruising dont get these bc there not really ment for that.

I'm rocking ohlins with full delrin suspension bushings and poly urethane motor/tranny/subframe bushings etc.
Before I blew my motor and it went under the knife (and still there)... It was awesome. I bought them used for $500 bucks. They are simply awesome. I sent them out to get them rebuilt and bought some used megan racing ones to hold me over until they got back.... um can you say crap! Seriously though, if you want the best bang for your buck, scoure the internet, ebay and forums for someone selling a used set. You can often get $1500-3000 coilovers for 600-1000 bucks noooo problem. And those good kind last for-ev-er... The used ones I bought were used in an FC race car for well over 3 years and I had them for another 3 before they had to be rebuilt.... so, take it from me... its a much better options
and as an added bonus, you won't have to defend your coilovers everytime someone asks you "Why did you buys such cheap coilovers?"
