Damn, rolled at 240? I'm surprised the driver didn't die of a heart attack.

BTW: Car looks badass. The tails are sick too. Man, I'm for some reason loving s4 tails lately.

 

Yeah in theory it was the fastest FC recorded, as the Racing Beat FC ran 238 mph...

 

dang that is messed up; isnt the land speed like 245? those salt flats claimed a another fc that was sponsored trying to beat the record; it too suffered the same fate of a flip and roll. the driver did walk away and did like 241. i know there is a youtube vid .

 

RX7s just arent made for high speed salt flats, they are cursed =(

 

LoL... The car does have and old school style about it.

 

Bummer, that car was one of the main reasons I bought an FC.

Too bad, but that's pretty f'ing sick! I mean, it looks like a stock s4 body? I can't even imagine what going +200mph feels like...

 

Yeah, there is something about the painted s4 tails with a chute between them that looks incredibly badass.

 

There are cars going well over 400 mph on the salt flats. This one was doing well for it's class though.

The other flip you're thinking of is the Racing Beat car, which was an FD.

 

that fd helicoptered hardcore. It flew through the air like a piece of paper.

Need moar downforce.

 

 

Did the Dandy car get in any 2 way runs before the 240?

The Racing Beat FC ran 232.753 on it first leg.

Then turned up the boost and ran 244.132 @ 8,550 rpm on the return run which has to take place within one hour to set a record. Avg 238.442

In theory you'd have to go thru the traps at 244.132 to claim any theoretical bragging rights. At Bonneville there is no theory.

All with only 530 hp. Dandy has a lot more than 530...


RB were set to go for 250 the next day but it rained and flooded.

That was 1986...24 years ago.

Looks like Dandy will have to try again.

Glad the driver is alright, and will live to give it another attempt.

The record still stands. It's tough out there.

The FD is slightly slicker than an FC but has less downforce as RB found out at 219 mph. After the flip they let them run aero add ons as 250 mph in a stock body was just too unsafe. The black FD 3 rotor suffered thru 2 more years of washouts before they went 244 the first day back before the rain came for the third year in a row.

At 900 hp the goal was the first 300 mph door slammer...I guess like others they waited for someone to break the record first.

A stock bodied FC is really a remarkable aero device. If Dandy could break the record I'd love to see RB wax up the old car with a couple hundred more horses and haul it out to the salt.

the dandy car is sitting way higher than the racing beat car. just an observation
