Wooooo!

My buddy jakob justed dropped an s4 lsd off at the house!

Lower ball joints came in. I got that stupid driver's side tie rod off.

PROGRESS IS FABULOUS! All fenders are rolled. Mazdatrix rear end link is in place and ready to be on and i started removing the dtss. Hopefully i'll have the rear end situated next week. My buddy andrew and I finally got his integra done so we'll be working on my **** and get it done a little bit faster. Just waiting on my money to get here so i can pick up the apexi gt, my secret element tie rods and some ss braided lines!

ALMOST READY!!!!!!!! I'm so ******* pumped. I'll get to partake in this season's events! I'm going to pick up some glass, bondo and some other **** and try to fix my 1/4. May or may not buy paint. I've gotta toss jakob some money for that diff and another nice rx7club member may also be dropping one off. Can't have too many diffs!

I love everything right now. I'm drunk and on x at the same time without doing either. SO STOKED! 8(?) months of blood, sweat, tears and patience is comming together!

We need to get your fd fixed josh! Andrew and I are going to scoop a welder off of you soon as we can. You should come out to hops in matthews sometime!

On the real, my friends are pretty cool for the most part. Andrew especially. If you dont get along with any of my friends, you'll get along with him. Hops had their own microbrewery!!!!!!

It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I guess i'll go take that diff apart later.... I had to go out later today and help the moma dukes pick up a camera. Which is cool b/c i can update my build thread in real time instead of 1 day missing here and 3 days missing there....lol. We took a few the other day with andrew's camera, just never got around to uploading them.

Ok. Here's another micro update.

Ordering my tie rods, ss lines and picking up my exhaust next week. **** to the yeah. If i have time, i'll install my audio shizz too. I'm a bass junkie. Love it. I might buy 2 more subs w/the box and sell the amp on craigslist to make my money back. $150 for an mtx magnum bass set. Subs take 500rms each, box is nice and the amp is ****....but it's mtx so some tard will buy it's low, mystery output on the cheap.

4 12's and 3000watts of boom in the back of my fc. Wow. I'm going to go deaf or rattle the car apart.

No go on the exhaust. Something came up.

However, i did rip my lsd apart today. The peices are soaking in purple power right now. I'll scrub em tomorrow, hose em with brake cleaner and then get the camera ready for the shimmy-shim-shim write up/install. I got fed up trying to beat my dtss bushings out with a hammer and drove 5 minutes up the road to the machine shop and coughed up $15.... The MMR elims went in BY HAND, which was awesome. Sent payment to eye candy today. I'm expecting my rods to come in in a week or two. I also bought new rear brake pads. The rear end is getting put back together this weekend and i'm stoked on that. Do not know about the ss lines. Maybe, maybe not.... I'm running out of money here.

I think i am going to buy ss lines. **** it....

Slapped the lsd back together today. Not much else happened. Like, i bought crimps to do my stereo install but the diff took up a good bit of my day and plus i wanted to skate/bmx today too.

Since i found out i had an open i was so set on welding.

Oh i so wanted to.... OH.....I wanted to:

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=WeldIt2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/WeldIt2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Instead i shimmed a bone stock s4 lsd. Here's mine in peices. Taking it apart is straight foward. If you can't figure it out you are a retard and need to give your rx7 to someone else....me probably.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=diffstuff.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/diffstuff.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here's the rundown:

When i pulled the diff, i had 6, count em 6 conical washers (aka springs). However, unlike conical washers they fit in the 4 cutouts on the sides of the diff case like the friction plates. These do not rotate. I decided to put 2 shims on one side together between 2 conical disks. The other side got 1 shim between 2 friction disks and 2 shims betwen the next to friction disks.

Here, you can see a washer and the conical washer in place. That is assembly lube. You'll need to use this your you'll **** your **** up.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=lsdspringdisk1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/lsdspringdisk1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

First shim going in place.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=1stshim.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/1stshim.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Conical washer is next

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=lsdspringdisk2wshim.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/lsdspringdisk2wshim.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Spring/conical washer on top of shim. Your next two/one/three/whatever the **** amount of shims you want go on next. Make sure you LUBE ALL CONTACT SURFACES. ALL OF THEM! If you skimp or put this together dry, you will be sorry.

These shims will keep the stack tighter and raise the break away torque required to make the friction disks and friction plates slip past one another. Perfecto for dorifto.

I cut the shims from natural light cans but any cans will work. I do recommend gloves.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=cutarounddisk.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/cutarounddisk.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

For this you will need a sharpie, scissors and a razor. Beer cans. Um. Yeah.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=shimsupplies1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/shimsupplies1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Yes, i drink. **** you.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=fingerbeer.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/fingerbeer.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Trace one of the friction disks outer edge with a sharpie.

Trace the inner edge as well. Rotate the friction plate so you can trace a complete inner circle. Cut that bitch with a razor or scissors or your teeth or your "lazer".

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=cutarounddisk.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/cutarounddisk.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

When i made my cuts, i cut INSIDE the traced line. Why? B/C the disk has to fit OVER the stub shaft interface of the center stack assembly. I had to make more disk shims b/c i fucked up the first time.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/?action=view&current=whatyouareleftwithis.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/Diff%20shit%20n%20random/whatyouareleftwithis.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

*fotos still uploading as i type this*

I dont know about your lsd clutch stack but mine was like this.

Cone washer
Shim
Cone washer
Shim
Shim
Cone washer
Friction plate
Friction disk (spiral side facing towards next friction disk)
Friction disk (spiral side facing previous friction disk)
Center peice w/cam'd ramps
Drive gear
Spider gears/cross
Drive gear
Center peice w/cam'd ramps
Friction disk (spiral side facing next disk (they do have staggered sides, these face the center's and friction plates)
Friction disk (spiral side facing previous disk)
Friction plate
Cone washer
Shim
Shim
Cone washer

Cone washer

Dont know about your conical springs but mine were facing with the bowled side towards the bearings of the diff casing. The "poked out" sides are facing towards the center of the diff.

With the shims in....it was a pain in the *** to put the casing halves back together. Your best bet is to put one of the screws in first. Enough threads so it doesn't strip. PUT ALL THE RING GEAR BOLTS THROUGH THE DIFF AT THIS POINT BUT DO NOT INSTALL THE RING GEAR YET.

Grab vice grips. Yes, vice grips. Put some cloth on the diff to protect it. Clamp the diff on the opposite side you just put the first diff casing screw in. Thread in that diff screw. Thread in the remaining screws and tighten them in a cross pattern until you can get all of them tight and there is NO GAP between the diff housing halves.

Now you can install your ring gear. Best way to do it is with alot of assembly lube and a soft hammer/rubber mallet. Tap it in place. Thread your screws through in a cross pattern as tight as you can (in the case, you can torque them down fine). To make my job easier, i used a spare stub shaft with the c-clip removed as a stand.

There you go. Shimmed diff. Go drift.

Note: Most people will say check parts for wear and whatnot. Well i said "**** THAT". Clean, re-assemble with shims and lube....then done. DONE ******* DONE. I'm fairly drunk now and that's why this write up is half-assed.

good **** homie. i think you could make that post alone into a S4 LSD shimming guide.
I wanna hear how it works out, i been soo close to grabbing one of those diffs at the junk yard, just too freaking scared to get under the cars there.

would love to have that posted on my forum http://tunerbase.com/forum/viewforum...fff439f9236f8e *i need to clean out the spammers lol

oh yeah, make sure to check backlash and all that yadda yadda clearances.. otherwise your going to get whine from the gear mesh and over time it can damage the teeth.. but ive known alot of people who got away with it with aftermarket diffs, but then again, i dont expect aftermarket diffs to last for alot of years without expecting em to wear out some.

I wonder how much more aggressive lock you will have with your number of shims...

Oh, wait, i fucked up. Told you i was drunk.

It's like this:

Conical washer
Shim
Conical washer
Conical washer

Clutch stack and center parts

Conical washer
shim
shim
Conical washer
Conical washer

I think. I dunno. I'm pretty sure there's like 3 or 4 of them in there. I was drinking when i slapped the **** back together and i stopped drinking when i ran out of beer like 2 hours ago. What am i still doing on the computer? When i put my stack back together it was nearly impossible to get the housing halves together so i took some shims out.

Yeah, put it on your site. I dont mind.

Check backlash? No. So what would be the poor mans way of doing so before i put the diff back in the pumpkin? I googled, no dice. I was just going to put it in, spin it around and check and see if it's turning freely but without clink/slop. Get at me about this. I'm a noob.

Check break away torque? No. I'm assuming it's marginally higher than it was when i pulled it out. There was some wear on my friction plates that by eyeballing looked like .75mm combined, however my clutch lsd is different from the one i looked at on this link: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/drivetrain-lsd-shot-need-rebuild-kit-581550/ My thrust washers are different, way different and so are my conical washers. His lsd has 2. Mine has 6. My thrust washers are small and smooth. This came as a bit of a surprise to me when i had my clutch stack laid out and it looked nothing like his. THERE AREN'T ENOUGH PEOPLE DOCUMENTING THEIR ****!

I'm just going to put it in and see what happens. Worse comes to worse i spend $100 (going to do it anyway) and buy another lsd and slap it in one of my empty pumpkins.

Worse comes to worse i'll buy some more disks. I'm sure the .5mm (estimate) of shims will be enough but not too much. I bought some valvoline 80w90 and accidentally bought some 85w140 that i've gotta take back when i pick up some front brake pads and a front brake line for my 4 pistons friday or saturday. I hope to have the rear end buttoned up by monday. While waiting for my tie rods and whatnot, i'm going to install my stereo, address my mop and oil cooler line banjo leaks and possibly put my s4 sport spoiler on.

Looking into paying the muffler shop to do a manifold-back exhaust. 3" piping maybe. I know i want a single exit but with dual tips. 1 4" tip extended 5" back and next to it a 2.5" tip extended 3" back. I dunno if i want them straight back or angled yet. I saw it on a 240 in a mag some odd years ago and think i'll try it on my fc. Just gotta make phonecalls and get some prices. Looks like i'm installing my stocker again for like the 4th time.... **** i hate stock.

Yeah. I know. I've already put it back together though........ It should be fine though.

Trust me, with all the work i've done, undone, redone and have to do, dropping the subframe and pulling the diff will be a holiday if that's ALL i have to do. Lol.

I'll check the break away on it. Damnit.....

Think i could get away with using a pair of stub shafts, 1 nut, a large bar on one end and a torque wrench on the other?

Hypertek always pissin in my koolaid. Now wonder when i come back to my cup it turns from blue to green. Haha.

Good enough?

****, i dont think i can do this without a digital caliper. I really should have checked it before i removed it from the pumpkin.

Now the backlash adjustment dealies, are the toothed sides of those facing the bearing or away from the bearing?

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-non-technical-pictures-198/stupid-f%2Acking-diff-cover-wont-go-now-827416/

That's what i've been up to.

Good grief.

Today i put the front coils on, set the camber to max negative. I put the new lower ball joints in and busted a BRAND NEW ******* BOOT. Lucky for me, andrew had some left over energy suspension ones. I'll swap em out and pack new grease in then seal with rtv or something....Or, i can be lazy and just put the energy boots over the stock boots. **** it. I'm lazy so that's what i'm doing. I was just going to leave it busted pissing grease anyway.

I test fitted my megan racing tie rod ends. The unthreaded/flared part of the post doesn't go all the way through the knuckle. No big deal. The ends themselves rub on the brake sheild. Also no big deal. I've got andrew's dremel so i'll hack the **** out of the sheilds accordingly. Are these even necessary? I mean, do we need brake sheids? Yeah, rotors get hot. We need em.... I guess.

Diff is mounted i guess. Just gotta ghetto rig the driveshaft and hope the **** works out. I've got some 3/8" washers that are going to get this "safe". It should be safe.

Need to document this in and call it "how to run a T2 diff with an n/a driveshaft".

GHETTO ******* FABULOUS.

EYE CANDY, YOU GET MY MONEY THIS WEEK. Well, it should be there this week. I'll be dreaming of the day they arrive and fapping my morning wood wishing they were installed.

Woo. Got more pics to take and upload tomorrow!

Secret element tie rods came in today. Daniel ships fast as ****! I love you. No homo.

Looks like i can dial in my camber and roll my fenders this weekend! Gotta get that driveshaft tip first.

Well, it's not driving yet so i'll let you know in a month or so.

Here's what went down today.

I measured the new tie rods up to my old ones. Found i had a cracked boot so i snagged one off of the parts car and it was in great shape. Had to buy loctite b/c my old tube magically dissapeared. It was blue fail anyway. I used red. Tie rods were installed, the ends were a bitch.

I put the wheels on and am so pleased with the angle. My **** rubs the brake ducts so they will be pulled out. I'm not too worried about brake fade just yet however i do want to upgrade VERY soon. It all depends.

I maxed out the camber up front and my rims almost sit flush. At max ride height (without rediculous preload) i can still stand to go atleast 2" lower with a small pull. I'll do the best i can.

The driveshaft slotting was easy. I used some medium 3/8" washers that fit right in the indents where the lock washers sit. They're fat so they support the driveshaft. I'll have to upload the pics i took tomorrow. Andrew took pics with his phone and i took pics with the 6.1 megapixel. It's whoever's hands were the less greasy type thing i guess. I was more concerned with making progress. Well, that joint is bolted in. The subframe is bolted in. The sublink/rear camber arm is bolted in, the diff is snugged up.

I was hoping the n/a half shafts would bolt right up to the stubshafts but that's not going to happen. They are all off atleast 3mm so i'm going to file the **** out of them and hopefully mount tomorrow. Then the brakes get put back together with new pads. I can re-attach those lines since nothing is wrong with them. Then i can put the wheels on and check camber (i'm not going to run alot back there). I'll go back and adjust later after the fenders are done and the ride height is finalized. The stock toe rods look to have cracked (but not split) boots. Looks like that will be my next suspension upgrade. Some nice adjustable toe rods! **** stock. Stock sucks.

Not much else happened.

Oh, yes. The ball joints. The dust covers are press fit onto the joint. Best way to remove them was a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. The urethane energy suspension boots were just pop on and leave it. Better than nothing. They dont have a metal press fitting but they sit over that lip enough that it should stop crud from getting in there and mucking up my shizz. I took pics of the process so that should be a good write up. Btw, the ball joints are from a company called mog or bog. Some three letter -og word. Got em off ebay for $45 shipped and they ******* took forever and a day to get here only to have the boot split from it just sitting in my hatch..... If andrew did not have a bunch of leftover **** from his master kit that would have sucked. Yes, aftermarket integra parts on my rx7. w00t!

I'm surprised the haters aren't posting in my thread about how much of a hack job i'm doing. Lulz!

I think just in case, i'm going to rape the half shafts from the parts car tomorrow before that guy come gets it. I wouldn't have slotted my driveshaft if i didn't have a "free" spare downstairs. Some other cat that lives 2 houses down from me that's dumber than **** pulled up in his donk caddy tweetin like hell asking what i was doing with the parts car and if i was finished with it. I told him i want it gone and i am done. He wants to make a drag car out of it.

Background info: Guy sucks at life and is a retard.

He asked how much. I gave him the same price i gave the guy that's comming by tomorrow. $125. he said he had to "talk to his boy and see if he has room in the shop for it." I think i got his gears turning when he asked if there was anything left in it. I told him "no but you can go to a junkyard and grab a 5.0 or lsx motor, driveshaft and rear end and make that work. Car will be FAST AS ****. Spray it, man you'll run 8's in the 1/4" with 28" slicks! Takin people's money b/c they dont know what it is!

He was like "cool. alright"

He'll be back if the guy from work doesn't come through tomorrow. Kyle is a hustler. If he can't build a drag car (i'm betting he cant but just talks big), he'll sell it for scrap. Not my problem, i just need the money so i can do my brakes and pay jakob back for that lsd.

You can't tell me my **** isn't sub-par. Lol.

Here's me dialing camber to max negative while dialing on my phone.

We dial phones while we dial camber so you can dial while you dial, DOG!

Here's the hack and slash N/A driveshaft to T2 diff setup.

I did the same to the cv axles..... No pics of that. I was in a hurry yesterday. I wanted to hang out with my kinda/sorta girlfriend. I mean, we're seeing eachother but we haven't taken it to first base..... Nevermind. Back on topic.

Some shots of the angle the kit provides:

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0064.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0064.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0065.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0065.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0066.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0066.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This isn't full lock. I could only turn the wheel so far before it got hung up on the brake cooling ducts. It's got 3 or 4 degrees more than this in it.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0067.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0067.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0068.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0068.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I'm pretty pleased with the kit. More pictures to come though b/c this isn't nearly the potential of the kit. There IS MOAR ANGLE to be had! I have a good bit of toe in and need to play with my tie rods more after i finalize ride height and camber settings up front.

A few pics i took. There were more on the camera but for some reason they didn't upload and dissapeared.

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0069.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0069.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I need to take the other ftp out and finish cutting my front bumper...... Dont remind me of how much **** i have left to do to this car before it's done....

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0070.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0070.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0071.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0071.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Rear fittament. There isn't much camber here. The mazdatrix rear arm is on and it's adjusted about .75-1" shorter than the stock arm. Sits almost flush....almost

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0072.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0072.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Front fit with probably 2" of fender gap and maxed camber.

Think i can roll them enough to tuck some tire?

<a href="http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/?action=view&current=100_0080.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p63/skunkoneholla/rx7%20more%20work/100_0080.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here's my sticker collection. Talk **** about the badge if you must. We put it there for ***** and giggles.

To do list:

Tag n title
Put gas in it
Fix mop leaky banjo bolts
Fix oil cooler line leaky banjo bolts
Buy a brake line for the front
Buy new brake pads for the front
Tighten half shaft bolts
Exhaust (use stocker or go straightpipe, zac is hanging on to the apexi for me)
Remove stuck *** oil filter
Add oil
Bleed brakes
Bleed clutch
fix the fuel level sending unit (maybe)
Bolt passenger seat in
Get an alignment after i set my suspension where i like it
Remove a stripped rear carrier bolt......too much torque on **** hardware..... Need to replace with grade 8 or higher stainless

That's about it. I would like a new shifter bushing and some nice pedal covers (i have NO pedal covers as of right now) but that **** can wait i guess. Wouldn't mind getting an act stage II-III pp with a street/strip disk either but the stock clutch works to drive the car so no big deal. Need comes before want at this point of the build.

Quick Reply: Brandon's (that's me) rx7 project
