UPDATE:

Robert says it's the pilot bearing. Great... now we gotta find that damn tool and i dont wanna want for RP to open monday.

 

Figures, probably destroyed it on install. Did you have to use the transmission bolts to force the trans onto the engine?

 

autozone it i think they have a pilot bearing removal tool and its free rental

 

Yeah, thats exactly what we had to do.

You can use the bolts to help line up the trans, but never to force it on.
Stick the driveshaft on the back end and turn it to line up the splines. It takes a bit but it will eventually slide right in. Its also a good idea to jack up the front of the engine in order to be able to slide in the trans at a better angle.

Of course, all that is good for when the engine is already in an you are putting the trans back on, I have not had to do it the other way around yet.

fcforlife is correct that autozone has pilot bearing removal tools and slide hammers.

i think its easier to put the trans and engine in at the same time and together. same with removal. thats how i do mine at least take it all out and put it all in together.

 

im so sad. i hope we can get this finished today.It was his doing on using the bolts to put in the motor.. we tried moving it and pushing it and everyway to get it in and it wouldnt go, it took like three hours. It was a last resort move i guess.

 

when you bolted the clutch on did you use the clutch alignment tool ? because that could have caused your problem. autozone has those too i think. that one don't quote me on.

 

Yeah we used the clutch alignment tool.

 

hmm i know what you mean by how long it takes to line up the imput shaft. specialy when the engine is in and you putting the tranny in from down below. i have tried it once and gave up on it and will never do it that way again. unless i have a lift and a tranny jack. and try what farberio said with the drive shaft. best of luck to ya

 

U might need a new pressure plate....? or adjust your clutch pedal?

But, I have never heard of the pilot bearing not allowing the tranny to shift..

Okay so it wasnt the pilot bearing, pilot bearing had no damange, we replaced it away. There was buildup on the splines of the imput shaft, so the clutch disk wasnt moving freely back and forth. The buildup was removed and now the clutch disk moves freely. the car will be put all the way together tomorrow.
