I don't think this is the craziest price I've seen by a long shot. I'm not a huge fan of the 'Verts, but with that kind of mileage, if it's in mint condition, it's far from nuts to ask that. Perfect FCs are rarer every year. The question is whether there are enough older guys who feel nostalgic about FCs to turn them into collectibles, or whether the guys with money to spend on a collector car will buy something else instead. My guess is most older car collector guys will be more drawn to the 'Verts as weekend driver/show cars (vs. say TIIs or NA coupes), so cars like this will probably start bringing this kind of money.
I'd be a little turned off by the fact that it's had some body damage, even if small, for that kind of money though.

According to John Matras's 1994 book, "Mazda RX-7 Sports Car Color History," these were the base prices:
1988: 'Vert - $20,500 (raised to $21,550 mid-year) vs. TII - $21,800 (later $22,750) vs. 10AE - $24,650.
For 1989, the 'Vert ($25,950) was actually priced higher than the TII (still $22,750).
In 1991, the 'Vert was $27,715 vs. $26,555 for the Turbo.
I suspect one reason the 'Vert base price was higher than the TII in S5 is because you could no longer get the cloth interior in the 'Vert; they were all leather. Mazda may also have been looking to recover some of the cost of adding airbags to the 'Verts.
These are base prices before any options, freight, etc.
