The Big Ugly!
The condition of the car is great & with only 8400 mi on the car a collector might fork over some money for it. Who ever would buy this it would not be touched aside from typical car care. Thanks for sharing! Also to the others older cars in this kind of condition usually sell for more than they were sold new.

I think its a good thing to finally open some new doors for the second gens at the collector level.
They truly deserve a place in that market and it is long overdue.
A few mint examples finally started appearing at the barrett-jackson this year.
Our cars are true works of art.
In my opinion they are much finer machines that usually appear at those events, and people oooh and aaah over them and pay much more than 30k, and those cars are many times fully restored, over restored.
The second gens in many occasions end up as abused cars, modified, etc... we all know the story. Its getting rarer by the day to find a true pristine example.
There is a small market for the collector level of these cars, and I believe it will really grow.
There may well be one person who will pay 30k, to park it in their collection.
Just for the right to say they own possibly the best original AE left.
Its a good thing overall.

It's going to happen sooner or later, that FCs will begin to command a premium as collector cars. It was certainly one of the more interesting and desireable imports of the 1980s. As the guys who remember them when they were new finish paying for their kids' college educations and start getting into collector cars, the price of pristine survivors will begin to climb and it may finally become worthwhile to actually restore cars that aren't pristine. Not saying this day is here right now, but at some point you'll be seeing more of these $30,000 FCs for sale.
Remember, twenty-five years ago Hemi 'Cudas were mostly thought of as worn out used cars.

You are exactly right. Sooner or later these cars, the really good ones, will be right there alongside the other desired cars on the high end auction block.
In the collector car market, those guys raise their hands for high bids like nobodys business.
Increments of 5,10k, they dont even care... they are wealthy and have totally different perspectives on money.
Some of them just want bragging rights to tell their friends what they bought, a one of kind vehicle... the mazda Rx-7 AE certainly fits that bill.
I watched a lot of the barrett-jackson on speed channel, and I couldnt believe what some
people were buying for 30k and up. Very undesirable autos in my opinion.
But it only takes one buyer to help set a new mark for those cars.
If I ask myself does a perfect second gen deserve to be on those ritzy auction blocks next to the rest of those cars ? The answer is yes.
I think the climb has already started in some degree and will only increase.

With that said, I do think that right now, the seller of this beautiful car will have an uphill battle finding a buyer. But if he's patient, it's not impossible. He might be wise to consign it to a high-end car auction where it could garner the attention of some fat-cat collectors.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more nice low mileage FDs left than there are low mileage FC TIIs.
If you're willing to spend $30K on either one, chances are you will be driving it only sparingly and mostly taking it to car shows and such to avoid running up the mileage. Most of the enjoyment would probably come from preserving the history of the car and its rarity rather than how fast is it or how well it handles. For some, this enjoyment is worth more than having two or three well-maintained, nice condition daily-driver quality cars. I can understand that.

at this point i cant see how the car is worth this much, especially considering the car has not even hit the 25 year mark to be legally considered a classic car. The collector market still has this car set at low value, there is just no real demand for a mint 2nd gen aside from the enthusiest/tuner market which wouldn't pay more than 5k for a 2nd gen.
10-20 years from now, if this car would surface for 30k still in mint running condition it would be a steal. Especially when the number of available 10AE dwindle to the low hundreds.

Except that if this car sold for only $5000 it would probably end up in the hands of a tuner who would immediately start modifying it. If we agree that in 10 years this car will be a "steal" for $30K, then it's probably actually worth something between $5000 and $30,000 today. Agreed it may not sell for anywhere near $30K, but if the seller is patient, he may find a buyer who's willing to make an offer somewhere in the middle for the privilege of continuing to preserve the car. Guys who are willing to pay a high premium today are taking the risk that the car will be worth more in time and want to grab one while it's available, or they just want the best one and have the cash.
Does anybody remember the 10AE that was listed for sale on this site about three years ago for an asking price of $29,500? I believe that car had about 6000 miles on it. Is this the same car?
