hey i just got back early from the touge early...called it quits because some people had to work. :[ and im sorry but i didnt get any footage, alveen with the hachi didnt come through with his camera. :[ maybe later in the week or next weekend ok?

I agree with both sides here, and for the most part, I'm sure none of us really cross the lines that often, but everyone has a little competitiveness in them and wants to see who's the fastest, where crossing the line can save you from 5-10sec depending on the length of the course... which is alot! From last to first in any competitive race. Luckily for us here, we save our timed runs for our one way pass, we don't have oncoming traffic. But if we didn't have this road, I'd imagine us running times on another course. We all know the repercussions of what we do, but we find it worth it, due to the love of a true driving experience. So lets stop fightin over this stupid BS and post some pics and stories.

everyone says everything is the best but is it really? i bet you need to run a 1 million person survey to prove your right......great road tho looks like the one in japan...which i only saw a video of when my friend sent it to me lol

I used to live in Co. Springs. Some of my old friends still do time attacks at Garden of the Gods.
I remember I used to race downhill at the Helen Hunt Falls course for many months. This was long before anyone else had done this. I'd do this almost every day, regardless of the conditions (minus snow). Back then I owned a Civic wagon. Mind you this was no ordinary wagon. It had a B16a, the JDM tranny (close gear set), 12" brake kit, suspension, and of course the car was gutted, and alot of chassis bracing and many other custom parts. It was a blast on the downhill, but somewhat sluggish on the uphil due to weight and a lack of power.
One day, after a rain storm, I went back up and was planning to do what I've always done- 'attack the downhill'. That day I was to learn something new. The road was damp, but not to the point where you worry about wet traction. On the way up, there is a slight right bend, before the road has a left hairpin up a steep hill (into a straight away). Unbeknownst to me, there was alittle sand that washed down from the hill right after the left hairpin. Suffice to say my car never had enough power to break traction around said hairpin corner on the uphill, but upon my return trip -where I was carying alot of speed from the straight I found traction was tough to fine. I was able to slow down from 100+ mph on the straight, but once I hit the sand (going ~25mph) and no matter how much I let off the brakes the tires just could not find traction, and as a result I hit the rock wall/sand pile at 20mph. This was quite unfortunate for me, but I have to admit- driving that road, I have learned a great deal about technique and balance to a car's setup.
Regarding Garden of the Gods- That area is beautiful, but I never pushed my car too hard there as I never trusted the curbs. Its definatly a fun road, but several of my friends crashed there. I believe some of you Colorado Springs guys may know my friend Andy. He drives a 2.5RS and frequents the time-attack 'events' held there.

thats a nice story man...nice lesson and everything in fact i have a story about my friend cao this past week end...we were hitting out usual road and then after about five minutes of cruising the road i get a call about cao crashing.
apparently he was trying to follow alveen(friend w/ hachi) and entered a right turn too fast and did down shifted wrong. he was too far in and made it too wide and didnt heel toe along with downshifting while turning. this resulted in a an over bite and his civic crushed and his drivers side front corner went into the rock wall. he is ok but the car is totalled so now he is considering getting a rwd haha

Anyways, yesterday I got a call that some of my FD buddies were goin on a cruise. So after we all met up, we started to head up Hwy24, which is an amzing mountain drive for anybody who doesn't know CO. So we drive all the way to Divide, and take Hwy 67, which is an even more amazing mountain drive. It was awesome (minus the 5 minute rain storm at the very beginning) no traffic, beautiful fall trees, half yellow, half green. The road was covered with leaves, partially cloudy. I mean this **** was scenic! Anyways, we were all haulin *** through the mountains. When all the suddon we come up on a serious accident. There's three cars involved (all minor dents and dings) when all of the sudden we see a Dodge Durango Cop flipped over down in a rivine off the road! It looked real bad! And here we were racing up the mountain, and all these FDs were heavily modded, so they're all super loud! They definitely didn't give us good looks! So we get past the accident and start to let up again. We ended up going all the way to Cripple Creek. Where we then ate some grub, and headed out the backside, taking some road (It was Carr in Cripple Creek) All the way to this Lhama Farm. Where I remembered this road I went on way back in the day. I mean this road has to be in the top 5 world's best roads. It had just been repaived so it was super smooth. The camber on all the corners made it where you could haul so much *** and have full confidence. Not one car in sight. Super hilly, so many corners. This **** was a wet dream! And, then drove back on random road back to 24 and headed home. Was a beautiful day, and lots of fun! Any fan of the Touge has to do this drive if ur ever in CO. It was heaven and I won't forget this drive... ever

Yeah, I know Andy. Although, he sold me a broken pivot, and hasn't called since. But other than that he seems pretty chill.

Seems like this is as good of place to post this as any... I made this after I crashed on Helen Hunt Falls. I never got around to finishing it as I intended to get someone to drive the course and have the map follow the car along its path... The few pictures are of the crash scene the next day. Oh- once the video stops, the video is done- the song will still play if you like it. In either case- enjoy!

I used to drive touge in VA and WV. Really regret never recording any runs. Stock suspension and shitty tires wasn't THAT bad, just have to keep a rhythm and not let the momentum build up, actually really good for learning how to drive. Lots of positive camber in the turns eating the outer edge of the tires. Going to tokico's, eibach springs and coilover sleeves with 225-50 falken azenis RT-615s and proper alignment was like night and day. Fun stuff, kinda miss it.

I love touge driving too.
There are A LOT of nice mountainroads in austria, but I live in vienna, and here I have only one little hill nearby, the realy high mountains and serious mountain roads are about 2 hours away,...and that's too far away for just a little fun at night,.... and gas is very expensive here too, so touge driving is always very costly.

) or just very fast corners.

I have KYB AGX and RSR race springs, no alignment yet, I always wanted to buy a rear camber adjuster first, but I still don't have one.
So maybe it's more predictable after the alignment.
And I want DTSS eliminators, I think it should be better then too.

Wow! That is one beautiful road! Needs a repaiving though. Man, I hope I can make it to Europe and hit up as many mountain passes as possible... oh, and the Nurburgring of course

actually that's not the main road with the bad paving, it's just a small road next to the main road, terrible to drive...sooo bumpy, but it looks cool for photos.
The mainroad has a pretty good pavement
