Who else welded their UIM and LIM?

Who else modified their UIM and LIM to remove the unused nipple instead of putting vacuum caps?

I kept the one for the OMP nipples, one for the boost controller/potentiometer and one for my fuel regulator. Everything else, i TIG welded shut. I'll smooth and clean everything monday morning at the garage, and then paint them to match my freshly rebuild S4 NA.

Done this about eleventy zillion times. On a few cars even gone so far as to cut away all the factory EGR/ACV passages, weld where necessary, and completely separate all the runners. Hell of a lot of work.

Hey i'm happy to see that! If you of all people do it too, than i'm more than happy that my idea was a good one after all! I'm pretty surprised tho since i never seen anybody with that mod on the forum or where i live, everybody always say just cap them, but those damn caps are just a weak link waiting to break! What decided me on doing it was when i had to rebuild my engine, all the silicon vacuum cap were cracked, and only a year old...

And i was also very surprised at how easy it was to weld, being 30+ years old aluminium that was in contact with oil/gas/whatever!

Lots of advice on types of caps to use.

My advice is to remove the UIM, pull the caps, pull the pipe out of the hole (they can be worked out with a pair of pliers), tap the hole and use loctite on a small screw.

Personally I used some small allen head stainless screws and some red loctite. No more leaks, and the screws are more or less permanent.
