stuck tranny drain bolt "C" ?

Hey all,

I recently went to an oil changers to get my tranny oil serviced but the guys there told me they think the "C" bolt is seized.. . . I'm not sure after looking at the photo below.. . . 86 S4 N/A

The tranny fluid really needs to get changed.

First, is that plug/bolt really bolt "C" in the photo? . . .and if it is seized, can I fill it through "D"?

I'd really hate to drop the tranny to deal with this. . . It's not leaking currently.. . . . At least I don't think it is after the guys messed with it now.

What are my options here? . .

They get stuck from time to time. I use a little map gas torch and heat the trans around the fill plug and it helps with the expansion of the aluminum case when heated. You have to be careful not to melt any wiring but it makes removal of the plug much easier.

That is the fill plug. In the FSM screenshot you provided that's the Turbo transmission, but it looks like you have an NA transmission. Not sure if it has a "D" fill plug, but I've certainly never noticed one.

As far as the "C" plug, what I did was heat the area as mazdaverx713b suggests and then clamp a massive set of vise grips on it. Once you get it to turn a few degrees, you should be able to remove the vise grips and use a crescent wrench. Unfortunately since it's a square head and the metal is fairly soft, it likes to round off, so be careful.

At least the shop checked that they could remove the fill plug before they removed the drain

I usually use a 12" adjustable wrench to loosen that fill plug. The 12" wrench gives me plenty of leverage. I've never had any problems loosening those plugs.
