RE Amemiya's 2017 TAS Show Car

so in 2017 RE Amemiya built an FC, and since the car came out they have posted pics of building it which is neat. This should be a bit like a build thread, except its not my car, and the car was built ~4 years ago

The car is an FC, using an NA 3 rotor with an Rx8 6 speed, which is pretty neat. Mr Amemiya put the engine further back than we're used to, and also lower (i think). They did a custom body kit, and its a bit flashy for me, but it probably worked great for an international auto show... anyways, pics!

Looks great. What happens to these show cars after they build them?

Sometimes they go into competition (superlap battle), sometimes sold to patron, sometimes abandoned under a tarp behind the shop for 20 years like a certain famous AWD 3 rotor FC.

Thanks for sharing these pics j9fd3s, cars always look so much better to me in the paddocks than in the convention center!

i'm not sure about this one, they did a track day with it, and it seems to have hung around the shop for a while too, and people bring it chocolates

Cracks me up that people bring it chocolates lol.

It's badass that they're still modifying FCs and FDs. I wonder if they've done any 1st gens recently.

I'm not sure where they find the cars they start with, but they start by pulling it apart and cleaning it, same as anyone else

over the course of some amount of time (most of these are in Mr Amemiya's blog ƒAƒ}‚³‚ñ‹C‚Ü‚®‚ê“ú‹L which is a fun read, even if you can't read it)

anyways, i'm not sure the entries are real time, but they stripped the car down to the bare shell

Need moar pictures of that transmission swap. Although, they likely just cut the tunnel to mount the shifter as it's a show/track car.

unfortunately there aren't any specifically, but the shifter is in the stock location, so i think they moved the whole engine back and down, oh and the radiator is in the stock location is the other tip off

Part of the goal in using the RX8 trans is the shorter distance between bellhousing and shifter location helps bring the engine closer to the firewall.

So, doubting they cut the shifter hole in the trans tunnel.

Engine mock up, notice how close it is to the firewall, and how low it is?

The HVAC was rebuilt too, this is something you'd expect in a real car and not a show car...

That makes sense. I'm not too concerned with engine location and really don't want to move redesign the engine mounts for the purpose of putting in the 6 speed. I was really hoping for a shifter relocation

there is some combination of stock parts that can do it, there is a guy Titanium TT or something that did it.

with the S1 Rx8 trans, its made by Aisin Warner, so its used in other cars. the 99-2005 Miata 6 speed has a version, the S2000, 350Z and a couple of others.

This thread https://www.rx7club.com/rotary-car-p...d-rx7-1142443/
almost makes it sound like you can use a Rx-7 tail housing on the Rx-8 gearbox. But who knows the google translate of the linked page is horrible and they keep saying a 5 speed Rx-8 which I didn't know existed. Maybe in Japan.

oh yeah in the rest of the world the Rx8 had a low power engine and a 5 speed, and that is/was basically the FD trans. in the USA we only got the low power engine with an automatic for 2004-2005.
