Just got a 1990 GXL for free! Has issues tho

Hey Guys its been a very long time since I have posted anything on here, actually about 5 years or so. So a buddy of mine recently just came back from Iraq and was moving, he didn't want his FC anymore and asked me if I would like to keep it. Of course I said yes, I had another 1990 GTU but sold it when I was 20 like a moron.

Well it has been sitting for around 2 years, I gave her fresh fluids, new fuel, a new battery and attempted to see what she'd do. Not surprised it would crank but not start. I grabbed a bit of ether to see if I could get it to crank over for just a moment, but still no success.

I was speaking to my friend and right before he parked it he did say it was blowing a bit of white smoke, which I am hoping I don't have completely f'ed seals. But it was running until he hit a curb/bump and the car stalled and would not fire back up.

I am thinking it may be an ignition issue for why it won't fire, it should at least fire momentarily if ether is shot directly into the TB but it doesn't. I am just at a loss of where to start diagnosing my issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(Pics attached, yes its dirty. It sat in a shed for 2 years)

Yes, my friend saw a Pug and then had a wonderful idea.

nice pick up.
Yea pull the plugs and have a look, maybe check the fuel filter too.
White smoke means burning coolant hopefully it's not that bad.

Check this thread.. https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...rt-up-1103664/

There are links that helped me, as well as what I went through. A biggie is getting lube in the engine before turning it. I used MMO, oil or premix works as well. You need a bit of oil for compression.

I premixed before attempting to fire it. Work has been hectic so I am going to work on her today. Heading down to the good ol' part store shortly to get some new plugs and various things. Thanks for the link tho!

So great news guys. Changed the plugs, put a bit of ATF in the Leading spark plug hole and let it sit for a couple hours. Went and started it up and bellowed smoke all over the place (looked like a Stephen King movie) Now it runs like a champ! Thanks guys! Not a bad deal for only spending 25$ total on the thing!

Oh yeah, and totally no smoke now when she runs! Which is defiantly a great sign. However she does have a leak in the cat, smoke came in from the shift boot so i'm pretty sure of it actually. Now for some body work

Cool,

BTW, my fuel gauge sits in exactly the same spot. No matter how much fuel is in the tank. I learned to believe the light on the dash.

Yeah my old one did that also, could always use a multimeter and measure resistance as your fuel gauge lol
