EGR valve

I inspected my EGR valve and determined it is hooped (depressed spring, plugged vacuum hole, released spring, watched it quickly go back). Not surprising given its age.

Wondering if it's better to have a crappy EGR valve, or get a block off plate?

Is blocking it off as easy as getting a block off plate and capping wherever the EGR vacuum line connects to?

Thanks

Why not just replace it with a known good unit?

The part's discontinued and I can't seem to find a used one in working order. Plus, if I did happen to find an OEM one, it's like $300 USD
