Diagnosis Help, Please

I'm buying a 1990 RX-7 GTU off of a guy. However, it has bad low end power and the exhaust overheats after about 5 min. He says it has a bad seal or two in the second rotor, but I think that it may just be a clogged cat causing the issues. Can you all help me diagnose? I don't want to rip the engine out if I don't have to.

If it has a bad seal the injector will over load the bad rotor with fuel and may be the cause for both low power and glowing exhaust. Without looking at the car though... I can’t say. It may just be a clogged exhaust system. It could be a bad OMP putting the car in limp mode for low power. Who knows. Need more info.

Not to sound negative, but if you're not willing or at least fully expecting to have to pull an engine from one of these cars... you should reconsider buying one. Cuz getting it out is the easy part...the rest is where it starts to hurt and get pricey.
