1988 RX-7 Interior Strip Down

Hello, I’m currently gutting my 1988 RX-7 to fix and clean up all the rust and after I pulled up the carpet (and the shitty half *** carpet that was glued to the factory carpet) I notice these pads everywhere. What are they? Are they just for heat and noise or just kind of there?

It's stock sound deadening. I would only take it up unless you strongly suspect there is rust underneath.

Dry ice, a chisel (air hammer if you're brave), and patience.

I took up a portion of mine due to a leaky hatch drain that had filled up the bins and went down behind the seat. I wanted to make sure I had gotten all surface corrosion off.

Make sure to put something back in as a replacement, Dynamat, Lizard Skin, something. The extra noise isn't worth the minimal weight reduction on a street vehicle.

with cold it gets brittle and will come up in sheets with a putty knife, with heat it melts and turns gooey.
