But to actually answer your question, the two cycle mod involves removing the OMP, blocking the hole it makes, and adding oil to your gasoline everytime you fill up, like a two cycle engine. So you wouldn't want to do both that mod, and rebuild your OMP lines. And for an update, I've got the engine pulled apart again (bad coolant seal) and everything OMP-wise is looking good... The tubing doesn't seem to be getting brittle, no leaking and there's oil all through the lines.

 

That thread you attached is for altering the way the omp gets its oil.

In that thread you take your omp and install a blockoff plate b/t the omp and the front housing BUT leave access for the drive gear for the omp.

Then you drill a hole in the pumps feed area, and install a pipe in the hole. That pipe will now be the feed hole for the oil to the omp. You install a oil resistant hose to that new nipple. A hose made out of the same material that the injector oil hose are made of. Such a gas hose for a lawnmower that can be found in the hardware store/lawnmower rebuild shops etc.

At the other end of this new line you have a oil reservoir of your own making. You decide how to build it and install it. You now fill this new reservoir with two stroke oil.

When the engine is running, the omp (it is indeed a PUMP) will suck the oil out of the oil reservoir and go into the pump then to the injectors.

I've found that the oil in my pan never goes down anymore (duh, who'd a thought), but the oil from the new reservoir does indeed go down and requires a refill every couple of tanks of gas. How often??? It depends how hard you drive the car. Drive hard and the omp rod is full open and pumps more oil. Drive like a old lady and the reservoir goes down slower.

It this worth doing? Got me. I did it as an exercise and getting bored with RX-7. It does work and works well. But you've got to keep an eye on that new reservoir level. You can't daydream and forget about it. So it's extra maint for the person who does it. The other side of the coin says that the two stroke oil is better than the motor oil. Less residue THEY say.

Every once in a while I think about undoing it and going back to the normal omp feed from the pan. It's a toss up for me but was fun doing.

Pouring oil in the gas tank is for (fill in any derogatory word that comes to mind).

While replacing my fuel injectors and vac lines, I took a look at the MOP lines. I had purchased all the materials to redo those as well, but in examining the MOP lines they appeared to be in good shape so I decided to put off replacing them. The car only has 70K miles on it so I figured they would be good for another 70K. That is, until after replacing some of the oil injector vac lines I noticed that one of the oil lines had just cleanly broken away from the injector. Must have bumped this line while replacing the vac lines. See the before and after images below.

So, my point is, if you have the UIM off for any reason, plan on replacing these lines. It's not that difficult. Make sure you get all the materials as expertly described by the original poster of this thread, and get the copper gaskets as well. Now back to the fuel injectors.

 

I personally didn't have any trouble reusing the existing copper gaskets, even after almost 200,000 miles. But then, I'm a cheapskate.
