Why remove them? Just wire them open first, and see if you like it. Removing them totally wont give you any more power(maybe 1hp or something) than just wiring them open constantly will, but removing them can take up to 8 hours for an unexperienced mechanic, plus you might not get it back together right and it wouldnt idle right afterwards.

To wire them open, remove the actuators, the round pot looking deal above the exhaust manifold. There are 2 10mm nuts holding each on, expect to have to pry/hit them to break them looe from the intake manifold. Once theyre outta the way, locate each actuator shaft. IT looks like a small crank handle. The open position is at 6 o'clock for both of them. IF they'vebeen stuck, you might have to use pliers, or a long flat scredriver and a hammer to move them. Get them to 6:00, then use wire or zipties to hold them in that position. I wire them to the nearest stud sticking outta the manifold, that went to those actuators you just removed.

IF you want instructions to take them out, email me and Ill explain more, but its NOT worth your time unless you have a specific reason.

I would'nt remove em' either. I'd try some Pineapple 6 port sleeves. They're c&c, and are realy nice quality. I think, if you where'nt happy with them, he would buy them back. Robs a pretty cool guy. CJ

Yeah, the first big run is at the machine shop as we speak. I've seen a sample and it looks really good! Price is higher than he would like, due to multiple CNC operations that require manual repositioning. It looks like they will be around $49 per set, plus core ($15, which would be refunded when you send in your old set) and shipping. He was shooting for a much lower price, but the CNC program is just too complex to make production that economical. Regardless, they are still a good deal. Here's a sneak peek:

Word from Rob is that the CNC-machined inserts will be delivered to him from the machine shop on the 24th of this month. He has a couple dozen sleeve cores with which to get the ball rolling, so they will pretty much be ready immediately at the first of the new year. Also, several shops have contacted him about purchasing the inserts in quantity (which they would then put into sleeve cores and sell), so there may be other sources from which to buy retail. I've also talked Rob into getting a Paypal.com account, so it will be easier to take payments and get these things out the door swiftly. If you wish to reserve a set, please call Rob at (503) 233-3878 or email him: rob@pineappleracing.com .

Well, you can use them if you wire your 6-port sleeve actuator in the open position. This will improve your top-end, but the low end will suffer (just from having the 6-ports open at low revs). The ideal thing would be to fix your 6-port system so it opens and closes properly AND use the Pineapple Racing sleaves to improve the top-end.

would removing the actuators not cause a vaccuum leak??

i mean isnt that a hole the that pushes or sucks air making it open the ports...

No. The actuators themselves do not go into the manifold. The actuating rod that rotates the sleeves, however, does. If you were completely removing the sleeves, rods, and actuators, you'd need to fill the holes in the manifold. But why do you ask? What was mentioned before was wiring them open, which has nothing to do with removing anything. You could install the Pineapple Racing 6-port sleeves and wire open the actuators, but ideally you would make the 6-ports functional and get the best of both worlds.

well the one kid said to remove the actuators then wire the actual sleves open to the closest thing u can see.. when i had my race pipe on i had no backpressure at all and i left the whole actuator on and just used a zip tie and tied it around the back of the actuator to hold the ports open.

this kinda sounds like a less messay way of doing things so i asked.

meaning remove the actual actuator and wire the top part so it stays open..
