NA's don't have downpipes. The stock manifold is replaced by a header. NA rotarys love headers.

Not flaming or downing anyone!!
But I see alot of people putting alot of money and time into their NA's and I can't help but ask "WHY NOT A TURBO?" I have friends with 4 and 5k in their NA 2nd gens. and I can dust them in my 1stgen. WTF!!!! I understand that not everyone has the money and resources. But TII's arn't much more expensive, especially finding one with a blown motor.

RX7+TURBO= DIVINITY

maybe its the skill it takes to build a fast n/a... anyone can buy a t2 and get it fast with little or no trouble.. buy an n/a and get it faster = more fun = more skill = more bragging rights!

Not sure why the hell you'd post this onto a great 7 page thread for N/A owners but okay...

There are plenty of reasons going N/A. But this thread ISN'T about them! Relibility, less crap to go wrong, I could think of a million, but I'd rather not go into them.

Back on topic.

Anyone use the TII intermediate housing? Does it really unbalence the car or is it better just to port the S4 N/A one?

bcty - Why do we do what we do to our N/A cars? Because in my case and other on the board we race in specific classes that don't allow turbo's or supercharger's. SoloII to be exact. If I had a turbo I'd run in a totally different class where the cost can get out of hand quickly. Staying in FP I can keep the car simple.

it is a good idea to use i heard it makes it easyer to start the porting because the t2 ports are already bigger.. something like that..

A stock one, sure. But what if you put $5k into the TII as well? Which car do you really think will be faster. Thats not saying n/a's suck or anything. They are very impressive, but simply cannot compete with forced induction in hp per dollar. Both engines are great, you cant say one is better than the other. N/a's are more reliable, can rev to the sky all day long, and are easy to work on. Turbos make more power, tons more torque, but have their limitations, such as redline, reliability, etc.

So lets stop arguing over turbo vs n/a. There is no argument, only opinions.

Fprep, the engine is going in RX7impreza's car, and we'll make sure to dyno it. I really want to see what that engine is capable of. We should have it together and ported in about 2 weeks, and in the car shortly after that. He will need to get a new exhaust and intake before he dynos though, its still stock, with the exception of a race pipe.

Let me talk to him, but we might dyno a ported vs stock VDI manifold on his car with that engine.

I'm still debating, myself. I have a feeling that set-up will be very loud.

First, do not waste your $$$ on 550 cc secondaries unless you have a S-AFC. I was losing HP form the car running top rich. Your car will run better with the stock fuel system. Next, I dont think you can hit 160 with that. Possibly with a VDI intake manifold, but thats really pushing it.
Carl(silver88GXL, I think) is putting down 160 RWHP in his 88 GXL with everything you listed plug a VDI intake manifold, and full exhaust. Do a search, he posted the graph and his mods here and in the SE forum.

by the 9k mark, it's out of the powerband anyway... why make it redline any further unless you have a bridgeport or the like?
