What motor oil???
Hey guys,
My 20b motor still has the OMP intact. I have been recommended to use AMSOIL series 2000 20/50 motor oil ONLY. Now I don't really know what the deal is w/ the 20b motor, but I recall from my OMP 13b motor that you cannot use synthetic because it does not burn out of the engine and ends up building up into sludge. Can someone please help me?
Thanks,
Chris

Synths dont turn into sludge. Many times its the high ester amount the basically strips the existing oil film off and its then sits in the synth and that causes sludge.
i recomend reading this forum...its pretty cool.

Keep that Amsoil **** away from the OMP.
A friend used that **** in his 13BT, and after a tear-down, there were significant deposits flanking the spark plug holes in the rotor housings, causing the apex seal to chatter.

Howard Coleman swears by 5W-30 Mobile 1 synthetic per his racing experience and a "trusted" engine builder he knows... I talked to him about it at MRR just recently and sounds good to me. Apparently 20-50 is too thick to get into all the places where oil needs to as well as the thinner oil does and Mobil has been used by him for 20+ years in rotaries.

yeah, mobil one synthetic is the best. I remember someone telling me they ran a crate motor with mobil one in it to see how long it could go while never changing the oil. Made it like 150,000 miles!

No one here uses Idemitsu? The only synthetic available specifically forumlated for rotary engines? Used on the LeMans 24 hour 787B racecar? http://www.idemitsu-usa.com/
I read somewhere that after the race, they tore apart the block, and found no signs of wear on the engine!

Use Castrol 20w50. Use nothing else and you will not have problems.
DO NOT run synthetic!!! If you run synthetic, you must run premix TCW3 in your fuel. There is no point in having an Oil Metering Pump if you do this.
