Ask Rob up at Pineapple racing what it is. I still haven't seen my damn engine yet! He's been building it forever but should be done in "two weeks". Plus the 20b rotor housings have been swapped out for new 13b-rew housings. So I may never see the number.
Next time I talk to him, end of the week or so, I will ask if he can look at the numbers for me.

It would blow up during installation if I built it.

I just saw another 20B today that had its numbers ground away. It's a conspiracy! Next time I'm over there, I'll try to get a good look at the irons. What are the areas to try to focus in on? This is the engine I'm talking about:

did all your 20bs come with motor mounts or did you have to replace it?

I know (I just hope I can see it under all the junk on this stock engine). Where do you look on the rest of the housings?

wptrx7, Even if it does come with mounts, it's still a good idea to replace them. The one in the pic has messed up studs. It's probably quite common because of how they stick out at the bottom. If I got this engine, I'd replace the mounts.

mine came with mounts but they were bad, they were leaking wierd fluid everywhere.
the numbers are tough to see, but its in every housing so you should be able to see one

Ok next time I'm there, I'll give it a good look.

They're fluid damped? I guess that's a good idea for a luxury car. I think I'll relocate and use the stock rubber mounts from my Cosmo. I'm also going to fab a torque brace. I've decided against solid mounts because too much noise may be transfered inside. I just want the exhaust to be loud.

The mounts usually come torn, cause they are sitting on the pallet.
Yeah, they are liquid-filled like the FD ones.

people use FD housings for the 20B rebuild, why don't you just port the housings that came with the 20B instead? what is the advantage of using FD housings over ported housings?

With the rotor housings, the exhaust sleeves can't really be ported due to a hollow spot in the bulge that directs the exhaust gases. So either replacing the sleeves, which is somewhat risky, or replace the housing altogether is the only option. I was told the reason that replacing the housing is the better choice of the two is because the exhaust sleeve is secured with spring steel pins and usually have to be drilled out. Since the housing is aluminum, this presents a potential problem. It has been done (Kurgan) but the labor cost quoted to me didn't really present an advantage over the security of new housings. I elected for new housings because the thought of loose sleeves did not sit well with me. Then again maybe my engine builder is lazy which would explain the eternity he has taken on my engine.
With the other housings, as mentioned earlier in this thread, I guess it is the reinforced area around the dowell pins.

I second the motion. Most of the guys on this forum seem to know what they are talking about (me being the exception, since I hired the work done).

Instead of investing in a 20B conversion, though, you can have instant gratification. Look at www.cris.com/~Asam/20B.html and let me know if you're interested.

i saw it the first time you posted it. 2 problems though: i am not a fan of convertibles (no matter what car) and i don't have the asking price or even 25k less than that. i just want to be able to have a rx7 (no matter what generation, because i am that big of a fan). i am totally into the fc, especially after being introduced to re-a white fc with thier 2k kit. and also check out the vid when you get a chance. 19 minutes long but it will you a fan to.

you are not the only 20b loving person who gets most of
is work done by others, warren or 3 rotor.com seems to
have his own crew working for him, I am sure he
could do the work himself, but it doesn't make much
sense to do your own work on cars when you make
enough to pay someone else, and still have money left
over to do what you want...

I do not recommend anyone taking on a 20b
project unless they are very capable at fabrication
and doing lots of work them selves.
On the other hand a 20b n/a project would be much
easier and has great potential with out the complexity
of turbos and the added expense and added work to
install the intercooler. but with that said you need to
either know someone who can do the rebuild for you, or
know how to rebuild a motor yourself.

Oh, I don't feel bad. I just wanted to exhibit the appropriate humility. According to my wife, I have a great deal to be humble about.

Hi 20B fans!
Just want to tell you that i have 2 20B engines in my garage. Unfortanately was one disassembled and the steel plates O-ring liners fretten. I sold the only usable rotor housing to a guy who owns Swedens one and only JC Cosmo! The other engine is a complete shortblock with number A500 on all 3 rotor housings. I plan to make a N/A peripheral engine out of it with Weber 55 dco carbs.

That's a B392
