Turbo selection
Turbo selection
Maybe this should be posted in the single turbo forum, maybe not. It has more to do with 3 rotors so I will post it here.
This spring my car will go under the knife once yet again and get some nice "stuff".
I am going 3 rotor. I have everything in line(engine builder, engine tuner, and a few motors that are obtainable). What I can't make up my mind is the turbo.
Let me share with you guys my goals and maybe you guys can help me out.
I want 1000whp and 800FTlbs @>29lbs.
I want a 8.xx second pass @ 16X MPH
The Motor will have a full Bridgeport.
The turbos that have my curiousity peaked would be two garrett turbos.
Either a GT4718R or a GT5533R.
Has anybody have an actuall personal expierence with either or these turbos on a 3 rotor.

Wow, I personally haven't had any experience with it. I can't remember who or what company did it though; but there was a silver RX8 with a 20B and it made 950 horsepower, can't remember the torque figure or the turbo they used. They made the power on 25 pounds with C16. So I'm sure 1000 horse should be no problem at 29 pounds. Good luck, keep us updated with your progress. Sounds interesting.
wow, i heard a three rotor was part of your future plan, but i didnt know you were doing it so soon and going so ***** out! i really dont have any turbo advice, but i cant wait to see this car's progress! good luck man.
I can help you a bit on the choice mate if the car is for road as well as strip use. Garrett technical in the UK spent quite a bit of time helping me decide specs on mine and a GT47 was one of the options i was looking at. The GT47 apparently is based on a truck turbo and the metal technology not up to the spec of race turbo's such as the GT45. In there opinion whilst the GT47 was fine for drag use but continuous street use would result in burnt blade tips on a rotary. This was the feedback i got earlier this year from Garrett UK so it may remove one of the options for you.

Thanks, I will research into that. Yes, the car will mainly be a street car. I set my goals for the track, although it will only see the track maybe once a year. It will be a weekend warrior.
