thanks for the pics.
i continue to be genuinely awed by your trans setup. i believe the T56 is THE answer for high hp FDs. i looked at your setup w the auto trans bellhousing and really didn't warm up to it as i love my exedy twin disc, didn't want to spend the money for the Tilton setup which is a bit too close to race for me...
i was planning on spacing the trans 4.75 inches rearward to clear the starter and slave cyclinder. i would have needed to machine the trans front adapter plate to just outside it's bolts to skinny it a couple of inches.
my primary motivation was i wanted the longer gears for 200 at the Texas Mile.
looking at your setup, again, it makes more sense. i will just adapt an exedy twin disc... push type.
nice, real nice

It is a FD auto starter on there. The 3 rotor one whent bad last fall. Any machine shop should be able to center the adapter plate to the bellhousing and machine of .25 to .30" off the bellhousing. The shop that did mine is out of buisness that did mine. Someone asked me to check for them but I deleted the PM.
I would make plates myself using mine as an template, but work has me in Northern CA and is going to be extended for another project. If so I am going to get the car out here someway. The only bad thing is no E-85 anywhere with in 200 miles last i checked. I'll end up retuing the car for the crappy 91 octane then.

You can use any push style clutch with the tilton slave cylinder. You just need to get the correct Bearing size witch tilton has 3 or 4 choices. I will be changing mine to a crabon clutch in the near future.

"no E-85 anywhere with in 200 miles last i checked. I'll end up retuing the car for the crappy 91 octane then."
you can still run max boost on the 91 using methanol AI. i recommend the FJO HD setup. see my thread in the 3rd gen section...
since you milled a quarter off the bellhousing i am assuming you were able to use the stock T56 input shaft?
"Is there a clutch that will hold 500-600RWHP and not feel like a leg press, and have smooth engagement, AND work with this t56 setup??"
absolutely. i run it. i recommend the Exedy sprung double disc cerametallic. i have 2 happy years on mine to date. no wear, nice engagement, modest spring pressure... you totally forget it is there. i am sure we can get exedy to proved the proper components so the discs will fit the T56 input shaft and will be push type.

howard , does the the exedy double disc make that anoying noise that double disc`s usually make?
i had a double and tripple disc setup on my friends supra ......man those things sound like the a/c compressor is about to fall off the car , horrible , later we changed to a prototype single by RPS , guys been happy ever since

Hi I'm not trying to hi jack this thread or any thing but if any body is interested I can supply Spec Mini twin and triple clutch and fly wheel custom kits to any one who is interested in a T56 conversion the clutches come with a light weight flywheel and a twin or triple Carbon Metallic Friction clutch plat.
The Twin can handle 800ftlbs and the triple is ratted at 1200ftlbs.
Price for any one in the US is $1700 and $1900 including free shipping any one outside will have to cover shipping costs. PM me if interested.

i'd appreciate knowing if the automatic trans bellhousing requires a different rear engine iron.
also:
"does the the exedy double disc make that anoying noise that double disc's usually make?"
my double cerametallic makes almost no noise at all. as a matter of fact i was in neutral once and heard a couple of knocks and was startled as initially i didn't know where is was coming from. it was the clutch but most of the time you literally don't know it is there. a fabulous item. if i do the T56 i will talk w exedy and have them either make me a compatible 2x cerametallic or i will just switch out the discs to a T56 spline and the cover to a push.

Howard i used the auto rear end on my fd. Dose 20b all come in auto form?

You dont need to use the extra bolt hole if you dont want too. Bellhousing patterns have been the same on all rotaries since 1974 with the exception of the extra bolt in some automatics.
Yes, you will need to use an auto end plate on the motor. The manual endplate does not have the provisions for the starter mounting.

So whats the setup on the clutch?
do you use an FD flywheel with a push-type pressure plate? How exactly is the clutch setup configured? ...i've got a triple disc Exedy that i really dont want to sit on the shelf.

My setup is an Unothrodox Flywheel with tilton clutch and disks. I had the same setup but with a different T/O bearing and disks on my stock trannys. At the time of my build there was few options on high HP clutches 5 years ago. Now there is alot of options for clutches.
Other option is a stock style flywheel , T2 pressure plate(Push style), and a correct sized 26 spline disk.

Talk to exedy, they should have a puch style cover, and ask about a 26 spline hub.
sounds like I can keep my flywheel, use a different pressure plate & discs (maybe spacers too) and be good?
that would be an excellent route. still leaves me with a complete clutch for an FD at the end of the day.

If you guys are still looking for an adapter plate already machined to mount up to the auto bell housing.
I local cnc shop made mine and still has the drawing and can make more plates.
Let me know i will give you info.

to slow... i am interested in what you can do re the plate. it doesn't make a great deal of sense to do duplicate setup. are you actually also up and running using your plate?
