Time for turbo, GT42 or S400

I've been trying to decide on a turbo for my car lately. https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-other-rotary-63/20b-datsun-1200-a-576600/ I was about ready to go with a GT42, but the Borg Warner s400's look really interesting! I'm ready to start building my exhaust manifold, and need to make a decision on a turbo.

My car is a '72 Datsun 1200, Haltech E11,20b (will be large street port or semi-bridge, not sure yet), tilton 7.25 tripple disc, Doug Nash semi-clutchless 5spd, 3/4 chassis, four link with Strange coil overs, 8 3/4 chrysler diff, 28x13.5 tires. Should weigh about 2000lbs, hopefully a little less. The car will be street driven, but performance at the track is my main priority. Anyone have experience with GT42's or s400's on a 20b? If so, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The off the shelf S471 wouldn't quite make your power goals. I would recommend at least the S475 or the S480 would be able to handle the power goals for sure. There are now a couple of different a/r turbine housings available to help you tune your spool to make it more street able. Although you shouldn't really have much problem with that 20B spooling decent.

Do you think that the S475 with a 1.32 A/R turbine housing would work well? The reason I ask is, I've found a very good price on these. The compressor map looks great. I'm just not sure which A/R turbine housing to go with. I would think that a 1.32 would work good on a 20b, even on the street. Any idea as to what rpm it would start making boost with a 1.32?

The S475 would be able to handle the power goals you are looking at and if you are getting a great deal on it then I would tell you to pick it up and try the 1.32 housing. You can always get a smaller (1.10 a/r) later if it is alittle laggy. I am not sure where that turbo would spool on a 20B..

I just recieved an email reply back, on what spec wise, looked like an s475. It was listed as an s400, since 400 is only the series I asked which model it was. He said it was an s400 s062. I've never heard of those, have you? It was a diesel shop so maybe it's diesel specific? Any way they only wanted $650 and it is new. $650 is a good price but not if is the wrong one. I think I'll just try to find the best price on an s475. You seem to be familiar with these turbos do you sell them?

If the 1.32 is a little laggy it might be a good thing with 20b power in such a light car. It may help with traction by allowing the car to begin moving before coming up on full boost. I'ld rather it leave easier and pull harder on the big end.
