T56 Trans kit DIY :)..

Here are some pics /info for how to do a T56 trans and mate it on a rotay.

First will start with the bell housing and the throw out bearing spacer/centering/mount hub adapter plate.

The Throw out bearing is a adjustable unit from Tilton
The spacer can be made as i have blue print available to make your own ..
Adapter plate is 3/8 SS i also have blue print to make your own.
OEM 20B Auto bell housing is used in this set up and has to be machined down 300 thousands.

The flywheel needs to be custom made as the flywheel needs to be 7mm more offset towards the trans in order for the starter to grab your starter ring. In the pic you can see that the custom Fly has the chamfered starter gear facing the rear as this uses the OEM starter and strikes the flywheel from the rear.

This info is to give you an idea of what is involved and can be done by most with machining skills. This is not the hole story but a major part in what needs to be done so that you have a perfect aligned and operational T56 swap.

As you still need drive shaft trans stand mount bar etc...

Have any questions,,, fell free to unload ...

So u need the auto bell housing? That doesn't have to mate with a auto rear iron right?

Is the adapter plate okay to use on a Magnum transmission?

There are also button clutch available through Tilton. I am not too sure how their products would bolt to the auto flexplate but also a good option to keep in mind regarding correct ring gear tooth count and alignment for engagement.

the auto rear plate is necessary in order to run the auto OEM starter and have the auto bell housing mate perfectly with all bolts.

The adapter plate in the picture will not work with the magnum as it needs to be redesigned to allow necessary clearance for the protruding casting on the face of the trans.

Yea not really sure about the button style set up, never used one..

^ Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Those types of files are almost never free, someone spent a lot of time measuring and figuring to come up with them.

Bleh, I had a snarky post about reading comprehension typed up for the two above me, but this section is usually the only place that's not actively on fire. In short, OP didn't specify how to get the plans and the thread starts with DIY... (the 'Y' stands for 'yourself', as in you being the doer) so I would have asked the same question.

Also, people often seem to be willing to help others for free with parts (jimlab's bushing drawings, bumpstart et al. DIY soft seals), mods (SBG US -> JDM taillight paint drawings), or tutorials (Aarons rebuild vids).

On topic: I'm curious why the flywheel has to be changed. It looks like the mods to the bell housing and flex plate thickness are roughly on par with the others solutions that have been posted up. Neither of those mods change the distance between the Mazda auto starter and the stock flywheel location. Am I missing something?

I'd also like to know how much the plans are or if you're willing to post them up.

He is a great guy and lets hope he shares the file with us. Not too many have access to a mill to make a part like this. But id certainly be very grateful to get such a opportunity so I could make one and do t56 and toss the stock fd trans out the window

Stock flywheel does not need adjustments perfect for button type clutch. For Aftermarket flywheel, no one makes them for the correct offset with the starter gear facing the front of the engine.. as the starter is mounted on engine not on the trans as manual set up.. etc...

Hope my explanation did the trick...

The day i made this thread is the same day my doc changed my script for me medds.. JK ...

The tilton 600 hydraulic bearing is no longer made. That spacer is no longer valid..

Adapter plate drawing is a farce,,, is int there a company making bell housing to mate for this t56 set up, in one of these threads?

If that's the case the last thing i will want is a plate ... ..
