Very interested on investigating why people are using the Automatic bellhousing to connect the T56...from what I can see the Manual bellhousing is the same length..it is slightly smaller diameter than the auto bellhousing..
I can not see any problems with clearance for the starter motor on the side of the manual bellhousing in relation the T56 box...

So the only reason i can think of is the clutch for the T56 does not fit within the manual bellhousing from Mazda..As such, using a smaller diameter clutch should resolve this issue??

Can anyone shed any more light on this section of the puzzle for me?

Slevin FD appears to have just put an adapter on the back of the manual bellhousing?

I've tried and the starter just doesn't quite clear the t56. also the fd transmission is using a pull type clutch and the t56 uses a push type so you would need a clutch with a 26 spline input shaft inlet and a pull type pressure plate ( I'm not aware of ones existence) then the clutch fork would have to be mounted to the adapter plate and reset for the depth that it needs to be to the pressure plate. that is all if you could get around the starter clearance issue.

In the end I decided to just mount the auto bellhousing and do what a few others have done. sometimes its just nice to not have to reinvent the wheel. however if an sfi bellhousing that is drop in becomes available soon that would be the way to go!

If the starter motor could be clearanced (EG a different shorter high torque starter motor used..) could the manual bellhousing be used, along with all the standard push type components used with the automatic bellhousing? (IE not using the pull type setup or clutch...)

Thanks heaps for that link. I have posted a question on their customer support help desk asking for orientation of the starter motor, and what engine block this bolts to (Auto or Manual)

Of note, I have also sent a PM to allrotor93... Appreciate the help guys!

also its worth noting that it can be done with a stock flywheel with FC pressure plate. im sure you can get a 9.5" clutch made with a 26 spline hub. But i found this and i think it should work. I hate 4 puck clutches but this is going in my drag car so its not an issue to me. i posted this in another section, i hope it helps. "Ok after staying up all night. I think i just figured out how to do this swap in my 1rst gen drag car. With that bellhousing you dont have to change the rear iron, starter ,or make any adapter plate. Now this is what im trying to do, I hope everything works. If im right i can use my stock flywheel and ACT pressure plate since i am running a FC clutch and transmission. Then i searched and searched and found this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACL-SI240U/
I am not a fan of 4 puck clutches. I would never put one in my FD, but this is my drag car so its not gonna be an issue. So theoretically if you were to do this in a FD all you would need is a t56, the quicktime bellhousing $572 , http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACL-MZ010XX/ $354.58, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACL-SI240U/ $352.28. So for under $1300 you can bolt a t56 to a rotary without having to pull apart a perfectly good engine. Having a SFI approved scatter shield, and a clutch that can take whatever you can throw at it. Im gonna give it a try, i will let you guys know how it works out".

By the sounds you have received the bellhousing? or the information...so you can 100% confirm this bellhousing bolts to the 13BREW manual rear plate, and the factory starter motor is used?

I am looking at using a triple plate quartermaster race clutch (Aiming for a bit more HP than the single plate clutches will hold....) Does anybody know what flywheel could be used? (7.25" clutch). Would the previously mentioned hydraulic clutch components work with this conversion then?

Getting very excited by this! Finally a gearbox solution to handle higher HP that doesnt cost an arm and a leg!

flywheel for the Tilton / Quartermaster clutch!! Great for people chasing silly horsepower...and more importantly not wanting to spend silly dollars on clutches (The 7.25" clutchs in triple plate are cheap as chips!)

HaHaHa yeah i placed the order which was refunded today. on their site it says in stock. i called blue oval and they have no idea when it will be ready SMH.... i called quicktime as well, noone has a clue. Bahhhh i thought i cracked it, oh well i will just have to make an adapter plate and hope that they finish that bellhousing someday. sorry guys...

Mike at gforce transmissions made that one. Apparently he doesn't want it to hit the main stream, not sure why. I was told not to say anything. But I really want a kit and I see a lot of u guys do as well. Roan has this setup in his car and its basically a bolt in deal. It's been done, like every says why reinvent the wheel. Tired of keeping secrets. :-/

It was on a drag car that was being parted out. I wanted to buy it but he was asking $4k for the setup.... too rich for my blood. But it solves everything. Someone check into it and post the results here. Thanks.

If anyone is using or considering using the magnum t56 you have probably noticed the shifter is in a bad spot unless you move the motor way back into the firewall. and the shifter sits a little too tall for pretty much any shift linkage unless you are willing to make a linkage to go back 6 inchs or so and at a downward angle and then back up into the transmission tunnel which will most likely make it it feel like your shifting a freightliner. To fix this problem rpm transmissions can convert the the tailshaft to a f body unit and move it back to fit just like a standard f body transmission. while mine was at rpm I decided to also have tripple cone brass synchros removed and replaced with carbon units and also had all the internals micropolished. it took them about a week and a half from the time it was sent out to to the time it was sent back. excellent service! so if anyone is considering using the magnum t56 this may be a good way to go.

he's gonna be able to go 300mph with that gearing!

i run the stock gearing from the GTO with a 4.10 gear and i cruise under 3k rpm on 6th gear doing 80mph.

I just got off the phone with Jim at Quicktime Bellhousings. He was extremely helpful and he actually gave me a call back after I left a message on his phone at 216-658-6264! He said the RM-4091 is having all the kinks worked out and hopefully it will be available in 4-6 weeks.
