supercharged

alright, so i know the rule with turbo chargers is you need power to make power, which is why i havent really seen much talk about them with rotaries, and the only rx store i've looked hat has them not for 7's but for 8's,

so to the point, what would you guys think of a 20B twin supercharged RX-7 FD3S, besides the mass amounts of mods you'd have to do for the car, and maybe even just putting in one supercharger, do you guys think it would be a good idea?

mixed reviews is what you'll get

dreaming is always nice too when you're 17 and have nothing else to do

mixed reviews is fine, and meh, i think a 20b would be a good candidate to supercharge, or even twin, a superchargers whine just sounds so much better then a turbo

That's too much power for me personally. I suspect a low boost (5-8 psi) supercharger with water injection might be good for 450-500 whp and would sound terrific.

BTW, did you mean "DeathSythe" or perhaps "DeathSickle" (Sickle and Sythe being farm implements to cut grass or wheat perhaps). I'm always trying to figure out people usernames.

i was going for the name deathscythe back in grade 4, the gundam from gundam wing but i spelt it wrong and have just ran with it since, and yea, i think it would be a great car, just not yet for now i am looking at a 10ae rx7 fc, 20k km on a rebuilt motor, new transmission and new clutch for 6k, i'm thinking that would be where i'd start for my cars, and then work up from there, i like the idea of a supercharged engine because it gives the response time of a NA, but gives it more power to begin with without much of any turbo lag, but the power dies off, and i wouldnt be doing much racing so it would be killer anyways.

I actually have a Lysholm Autorotor (same as a Whipple or Kenne Bell) twin screw blower sitting next to me right now. It is from the Chevy 454 kit they sell... and have toyed with the thought of throwing it on my 20b. I am sure it would put down about 350-400rwhp on stock ports at relatively low boost... but the blower is much too small in my opinion(1.5 liter) to be remotely competitive to a turbo setup. I suspect that at least a 3.3 liter head unit would be a better size, possibly bigger if it would fit under the hood.

A lot of people on here will say why waste your time with superchargers, They have been tried in the past with little gains compared to the turbo setup... Dollar for dollar a turbo makes more power.

But a lot has happened with supercharger technology over the last few years... Both Whipple and Kenne Bell have come out with much bigger units that can move way more air at lower RPMs... I think it may be time to revisit the idea.

In the end, I really like my N/A 20b. I doubt it will ever see a supercharger or a turbo.

hey gmonsen what's my user name mean ... not to tread jack... but any updates on your project?

Actually one of the best best street/race setup would be to supercharge a 20B peripheral port. You'll be looking at 450 - 500 whp at low boost, with great drivability. You can actually build a somewhat quite exhaust too, something that you can't do with a NA pp 20B (it would choke the power down), however, with the blower and positive manifold pressure, you don't have to worry about exhaust scavanging nearly as much...

So if you have the money, it would be probably one of the best engine setups out there, IMHO....

i think it was only doing in the ten second range honestly.

Not very impressive when you consider jesus padila has broken into the 9's on a 13B in a FB with NO BOOST.

He used to run a N/A 20B before they banned it, and that was in the 10second range with him sandbagging the crap out of the car and a full interior.

That supercharged 20B should have been WAYYYY faster. Cool non the less.
