Splitting E shaft

So I am breaking my engine down for rebuild right now. I gather you need to split the E-shaft and it has an M18x1.5 tapped on in the lobe to screw some special puller into.. I don't have that! Will I be able to wind a bolt into the lobe and use a normal straight slide hammer connected to the other end of the bolt with some kind of coupling or maybe drilling and tapping the bolt head to screw the slide hammer tip into? Thoughts please?
I found a couple of old threads asking about splitters but not with current working picks. let me know if there is another way.

Thank you
Lee

Fast forward to 5:30 and you can see the factory puller tool. It bolts into the threaded hole, then a threaded bar is tightened down which I believe rests on the end of the e-shaft. This pulls the front lobe part up and off the e-shaft.

Got the tip from another thread to use block of wood wrapped in cloth and wedge it between the iron and lobe; few hits with hammer it slipped right off with no damage. Best of luck.

Similar way but sketchy: https://www.rx7club.com/20b-forum-95...5/#post8026062

I have got some bits made up.. hope with the right thread! If I thread into the lobe and have got my flywheel and bits off the back of the motor then try and slide hammer a bolt threaded into the lobe will this work okay or will I be ramming the other part of the e-shaft into the other side of the intermediate plate and hence need to find a way to keep the main part of the shaft still relative to the plate and pull only the lobe? I might be able to find a way to leave off the top off the e shaft nut somehow. just curious and making sure I don't damage something! using the tap down method I presume the shaft only moves down a touch?

Thank you guys!

Correct; it moves barely enough to break the lobe free.

all apart.. Bit of a tap with lever bar and mallet. Slide hammer method did not work. but not really enough room or large enough slide.
Damn those crank front nuts and flywheel nuts are tight!

3/4inch rattle gun makes quick work of them.

yes I bet it does.. Mine is only 1/2".. rated to 500lbs though.. I ended up borrowing another half inch gun from a tyre shop as they did not have anything between that an 1" which would have just spun the engine around on the end of it I think!
Luckily their 1/2" gun did it.. just!! When it comes to torque again.. Wind it up hard with the windy gun or lock off the flywheel and torque properly.. which presumably means borrowing a huge torque wrench from somewhere!? Last time I did a flywheel I just gunned it up good and tight. More worried about the pulley end as I don't want to damage the nut or thread. Not that that is likely! Spot of thread lock on them as well? Gone off topic now but hey ho!
