PFS has done a lot of 20B conversions. Which one were you looking for?

they had one in car and driver, if you do a search someone probably posted the article. you realize if you move the motor back you also have to cut the power plant frame and somehow reweld it so it doesn't break

Is it possible to move the shifter forward on the 3rd gen like it is with the FB? I'm sure if it was possible, it would have been done already. Hmm?

you mean SA, right? The FB shifter is pretty far back. The SA's shifter sprouts almost under the dashboard and has a bent shift lever to compensate. I kinda prefer having the pivot more forwards, it lends a better feel to the shifter instead of having the pivot directly under the ****.

I suppose you could get a forward-angled shift lever, similar to the old Cobras or old manual-transmission vans where the shifter came out of the floor about even with the driver's butt. Again, it would feel different since the motion arc would be altered (it would go down and forward, up and back) but I have no experience with how they feel except in a van (and in that case it was more of a total up and down feel )

to move the shifter back would mean retrofitting a turbo 2 tailshaft housing the fd's shift rail is internal to the case

Nope peejay, I meant the FB. Check this out for a little visual. http://www.geocities.com/mg12a/mg12a/intro.html

I was just wondering if the '93 tranny could be modded this way.

I'm thinking that midget would be crazy fast... it's odd that came up because my friend and I were discussing dropping a 12A into his Triumph Spitfire... just so that he can keep up with me.... okay.... prolly not... but he'd have a better chance...

Speaking of that, I just today worked on my british car (MG Midget) in the hopes of soon installing a 2 rotor carbed (13B) engine into it. I finally got around to lubing the door latches and window slider/regulator things. Next will be tranny/shifter hole stuff. Fun!

Yes, and we all know how important those are in the course of an engine swap.

(take two)

I know you're supposed to be taking your time with a swap, but GEEZ...

(take three)

Wife kick you out of the house again?

...

I'm just full of 'em folks

It's okay... today I spent an hour drilling a 19/32nds hole out to 23/32nds, then came up here and collapsed. That's all the work I do on the engine for today!

i've not beenm lucky enough to drive the Black Hamlin car, but i have sat in it and started it. Unbelievable sound. But the shifter IS too far back. I suppose after you already spend all that cheeze, the thing to do would be to get one of those 6-speed sequentials from Japan (that shifter mechanism might be easier to extend forward with some sort of linkage) or look for another brand entirely that is shorter. PFS mechanic told me they fabbed an new subframe, PPF, driveshaft, and custom oil pan for it already... you could have just as well done that for another tranny.

You think the 20B'd FD had a far-back shifter? Check THIS out:

The car, by the way, is an R100 with a peripheral port 2-rotor mounted roughly in the passenger footwell.

Kind of funny to see a LEFT hand drive car in Australia

Man, that must have been one of those old hand crank drills.

Ahem, those pics are great! Now I'll be able to install a 20B in my MG if I ever got crazy enough.
