OS Giken

Hey guys whats up , I tried searching for this , but there seems to not be a straight answer on this , so I guess I might as well smack it out there
I recently blew up my tranny (not even making a lot of power ) I had some wastegate issues and got to around 450whp the gearbox exploded right there and then on the dyno
now I know everybody is in the whole "put in a gto gearbox thing mood"
but I don't have the time to scource all that stuff up , and if I find it all in one place (gearbox/driveshaft /bell housing adapter clutch and what not) its going to be expensive as hell plus I will probably have massive down time (which I don't want )
I was looking into the option of the os giken gear set
does anyone have any experience with this ?
does it hold the power say if by some stroke of luck I make 700?
will the different ratio screw up with my drivability ?
I looked at the pricing (around $4K us) I am pretty sure there is more stuff needed to complete the set , I tried mailing os giken , I got no answer from them yet , but I rather here from you guys than a salesman (if you know what I mean )
any input/thoughts are welcome

We deal with OS-Giken and I have no issues with it, that said we haven't tried pushing them to 700whp, OS will tell you they do not have "power numbers" but they will tell you it is significantly stronger than the stock setup and there are people who run them in the 600hp range just fine without issue. $4k seems a bit pricey for a gear set though, do you have a part number?

no I don't have part numbers yet , I am looking into it though , I am just trying to compare the options ,which at this point are :
GTO conversion
but according to my estimations
gearbox around +/-$1500
clutch +/-$1200
shaft +/- $900
adapter for bellhousing +/-$1000
powerplant frame solution(crossmember ) $??????
car down time to assemble and figure everything out ?????

so it does seem to stack up on cost for doing a gto gearbox conversion , I could be wrong on those numbers since most are kinda pulled out of my *** though
yeah the gto unit can handle upwards of 800hp from what I hear , but I don't think a street car (specially with the rx7 weight ) will be streetable in any way (realistically speaking)
the gearset seems arguably simpler to do , and seems cheaper when I look at it , plus the ratios change , making first gear actually usable
Zero can you guys get those (gearsets) whats your opinion on the matter ?

Yes we get the gear sets I actually have a set here now going into a customers car, along with the diff.
They are considerably stronger than the stock setup, thicker teeth, chemical heat-treatment, hardening. I can get a price together if you're interested.

Can you shoot me a pm or email with some more info , I believe its something I will strongly consider
A word in advance though its not something I am looking to do now ,but later down the road ,I am puting another tranny under the car now just so I can keep driving it (I hate it when I can't drive it ) and start prepping for when that one goes. ,you get the idea

GoodfellaFD3S has one in his car. PM him.

Also, guessing you have a 20B due to the section you posted in. It seems people who upgrade the internals of the stock 5speed still have issues at high power levels due to the transmission case flexing.

You may just need to bite the bullet and upgrade to a stronger transmission, just collect the parts slowly.

not sure about the t56 , i am just trying to figure out if the OS giken gearset is more cost/time effective way of making the transmission less of a weak link

Stock trans with pixy dust magical cryo frozen heat treated internal will break time and time again.
New bigger tougher trans will fix the problem, any option you look at will run you 8k-10k will all parts etc..

Unless you will commit to not drive the car like you stole it, stock trans all day baby JK..

I wouldn't give up on the stock trans. I have a stock trans that had the Liberty Gears metals treatment. I upgraded the output shaft to stronger metal. I twisted my input shaft once but I think that was an anomoly. I think it is worth a shot. The cost is probably <$800 if you are starting with a good trans. The output shaft is an additional $500 if you go that route. Paul at Liberty is the man to talk with. He has several guys running in the 9's on this trans. For the cost, give it a shot. It'll certainly will buy you time until you go to 700 whp. I'm in the 700 range and had the trans for several years.

It is their metals treatment program. It consists of shot peening the gears, heat treating and cryo treating. Paul said they have learned that the Japanese metal does much better when they double cryo treat the metal. I think the shot peening removes the micro imperfections in the gears. I've heard of other companies doing the same with gears to help keep them from breaking. Call Liberty's and ask to talk to Paul. I know 3 other guys running these trannies and all 3 like them. I've had my gears face plated which removes the syncros. Mike (Sk8world) has the same trans. He is making more hp that I am with his 2 rotor...runs low 10's 140mph.

Do you need my email or Paul's. The best way to contact Paul is to call the number on the website and ask for Paul. He is the only Paul there. PM me if you need something.
