need help finding the TDC of my 20b.

engine built by bankrupt shop.. need an accurate way to find TDC ideally without taking off the front cover.. there are no markings anywhere.

any ideas? i took off the transmission, clutch, flywheel, then took some photos.

thanks for any help!

all the pulleys are off with no markings on them... that front steel hub directly behind the huge front bolt (one with 4 holes where pulleys will bolt onto) of e-shaft does have tiny notch in the metal next to one of the 4 holes, but I've been told this could be bolted on in whichever way, so I shouldn't use that notch.

is there any other ways to tell? tranny's off, so if it has to be done, I can take the engine down tomorrow. just wanted to know whether there's anyway to find TDC without doing that. thanks in advance.

btw, the shop said he installed guru e-shaft... does that look like guru shaft? or could you not be able to tell from the photo.

Stick, be really careful when doing this, buts its the most accurate way i know of to find TDC. Remove the front main pulley nut, and look inside of it. There will be a keyway. Accurately mark the keyway on the pulley hub with a marker. Re-install the front pulley nut. Rotate the engine until keyway is exactly at 9 o'clock this will be TDC. Be careful NOT to push on the e-shaft towards the back of the car while the front nut is removed. This will possibly cause the needle bearing to drop.
