My 20B
During my 20B project, I had a chance to buy a US street legal 3 rotor Cosmo. I was never really a fan of this car (except for its engine), but after buying it and driving it around town, I'm starting to like it quite a bit.. Maybe because I'm getting old?? Possible...
Its an 1991, Black on Black, Type-S Eunos Cosmo 20B. Far as I know its only one in US with black interior that's street legal.. Only thing I put on are the Forgeline ZX3 wheels with titanium hardwares and a K&N air filter
Here are few pics of the car from this years DGRR... Photo courtesy of FDSeoul.

My Rotaries...

And my newly built "D" series 20B getting ready to be put into my Black FD project.. Still bit more stuff needed..

i don't think you are getting old if you are still building a 20b FD with a single turbo.....i like to call it re-defining your taste. your collection of rotories is very nice!!!!!

2 x in Alabama (me and Brad's Cosmo from WA, both street legal and legit title)
1 x in TX (Curtis James built, street legal but not sure what kind of title)
1 x in Seattle, WA (not street legal)
and I'm sure someone else has one or two

Hey Gordon,
yeah, I still have the momo steering wheel still on it.. But I also have the stock steering wheel.. Just in case I need to go back to stock
I'm pretty much going to hold on to all the original parts... and actually bought a front clip with Bryan from BNR supercars so that I could start modifying brakes and suspensions (RX8 rotors with FD calipers and bought Tein HA coilovers). But keep all the stock parts so I could go back to ALL original. I believe these things could be a collectors car some day.. since I last heard about 700-900 are left in the world and harder to find clean titled/street legal cosmos.
Here are few pics of the front clip we bought.. BNR took the engine and I took everything else..

Will do! But it might be a while..
I'll be taking my cosmo to a friend of mine's shop to retro fit the RX8 seats in.... So, I don't wear and tear the original seats and also modernize the cosmo a bit
Will post the progress here.. if anyone cares..

I'd also be interested to know. I looked into getting one a few years ago, but seemed almost impossible legally.
japan2la had one FS at one point, but he just kinda blew me off. He probably thought I didn't have the cash, or maybe decided he wanted to keep it for himself.
Any info would be appreciated.

This one was selling for $6,000. He says they sold for $100,000 new. Is that correct?

Wow I had no idea they were that 'affordable.'
I would be hard pressed to decide between a Ferrari 456Gt and a Cosmo.
(the Ferrari's are running between 35-65k these days)

I believe Japan2LA had a shell for sale. He sold it to someone in TX (I've talked to that guy) and he build it and sold it. Far as I know he was able to get a title but not sure what kind of title (show, rebuilt, kit, etc).
I bought mine thru a importer. I don't know how he did it but I wouldn't of bought the car if it didn't have a clean title. And I definitely didn't pay $6K. Its well over that! You are pretty much paying for all the work it takes to get it street legal.. Like I said, only cars that I know of that are street legal and can be registered are mine and Blueflames (also happen to be in Alabama and not because of Alabama).
Regarding Cosmo.. Eunos Cosmo was the most technological car of its time. Back in 1990, it was the first production car to have touch screen climate control and GPS (mine doesn't because its sport model and it wouldn't work in USA). It was also the most expensive car Mazda has ever built. In 1990, top of the line Cosmo went for close to $60,000 USD. That's a lot of money even 18 years later...
My experience with the Cosmo.....
Its definitely a nice car (especially for its time). When I drove this car to Deals Gap, I got 10MPG going about 80-85MPH. Going about 70, I was getting about 13-14MPG. The car is well designed (as I disassembled a front clip) and well built. Only issue I have so far is finding parts (hence the front clip). But I was able to find Coilovers and I was lucky enough that all my wheels from the FD and 8 will fit the cosmo.. Some of the down fall of this car is the brakes. It has tiny single piston calipers and rotors.
Would I buy this if I wasn't a rotorhead? Probably not. Its not that sporty compare to modern sport sedans. RHD thing is what my wife likes and one of the reason I was able to buy it. But besides that, it drives like my old Legend Coupe with bit more kit at high RPM.

What in tarnation is Bryan going to do with a three rotor
Phil, didnt know about the weak brakes on the cosmo, you're a brave guy for driving that tank through the Dragon
Also, I have a *ton* of nice high-res pics of your Cosmo weaving through the roads leading up to the Dragon on the sunday when I followed you out there. Tom/theorie rode shotgun in my FD and snapped a bunch. Will post them up soon......

Rich, Bryan is putting 20B into his newly acquired REPU.. Its going to be interesting..
LOL! I was bit worried because at that point, I've only driven on the RH side for about 2 weeks. I was getting used to the size of the car and I had to be more aware of the double yellow.
Tom send me the discs.. but haven't had a chance to look at them.. That reminds me.. I need to update DGRR site and such.. Been kind of lazy since DGRR and we are about to get a puppy (a trade between my wife.. She let me buy the Cosmo and she now gets what she wants... ).

Its very comfortable... even though its the sport edition
Power wise, it moves when power and hold button is pressed. Someone at DGRR said it sounded like a jet when I passed him going 100+MPH.
