Top spec cosmos are a masterpiece. It would be a waste if you got a working car just to pull out the motor. Just get the front clip of a Cosmo

It might just be me but too many of these cars have been wrecked just to harvest their engine. Don't get me wrong I am all for 20b rx-7’s, just pull the engine from a wrecked one. By the way not all cosmos had a 20B.

The front clip is usually about $6,000, while just the engine is about $4,000. Plan on spending an additional $6,000-$10,000 for basic DIY installation into an RX-7. Professional conversions are about $35,000 including a fully rebuilt engine and supporting performance modifications.

There is currently one used 20B-REW engine for sale on E-bay motors, and there is one for sale by Indispeed on this forum. Also on this forum, Butler and Attila the Fun are selling their completed 20B cars for a lot less than it would cost to build.

Places to find used 20B-REW engines:

I was lucky to find a 20b clip in an import garage for $2500. It came with a auto tranny which I use as a paperweight. I replaced the throttle body and installed a lightened flywheel. I still need to establish a complete ecu harness because it is partially cut. Definetly a work-in-progress.

at the risk of sounding like a crackhead-retard, those are just shipping costs, right? not car AND shipping.

i could get a 13bRE cosmo registered in canada for $6000-7000 USD landed...its cheaper to buy a whole running 20b car than the motor itself...wait a few weeks, i may have a supprise for you cosmo lovers..

dude i dont mean to be rude, but why would u want to go through the hassle of importing a whole car that its very difficult to register or a motor that can be bought right here in the US... first off, u have to track down a motor in japan and u better be sure of the condition of the motor before u get it because they will sell u garbage.. if u dont have someone to check it out in person before u pay, then dont waste ur time.. A friend of mine imported a 20b from japan and it was a major PITA to deal with shipping docs and fees, so next time he will be buying from an importer like Brian (japan2LA)..

Importing a whole car into the states is risky, of u dont have proper docs & a good broker ,US custom might sieze ur car and distroy it... the guys you see importing RHD cars are trained pros and have some connections & know-how in the game.. the only benefit of buying a whole car from canada is for the ease of licencing if ur a Canadian citizen or if u have family there... if u get the car registered there u can bring it over here and drive it around with canadian plates...
so the final verdict is, save ur money and support the local forum/US importers if ur looking for a motor or JDM parts...if u want a RHD car, be prepared to spend some money because after u get it here u might need some of that loot to bribe DMV to let u register it... or you can put a glass case around it and make it a very expensive garage ornament..
please do the research, i've done it for the past 6 years and its not worth the hassle to import a car or parts by myself
