back on track though is the 20b fd that impressive when compared to a well setup 13b or is it overrated?

 

i never said it was dumb i just thinking you should stick with the gm set up like a ls6 or a ls7 or supercharged or turbocharged lsx.
oh and my car would put a spanking on that zr1 so bad that it would send you back to the dealership asking for a refund.

Rotary sound in a Vette just wouldn't sound right. The same thing vise versa! Some vehicles need to sound a certain way. Hell I just recently bought a used 2000 BMW M5. Them German's don't play! Man I'll tell ya! The v8 rumble is a drastic change for me. Every car i've previously owned has been rotaty powered. Originally I told myself that if the engine ever blew, I would use the chassis for a 4 rotor swap. Now that would really be a nice luxury sports sedan. But then again I thought!!!!!!! As nice and as unique it would be, it just wouldn't sound right.

And it would have lasted many more thousands of miles. It only blew do to my own ignorance. I was running 87 octane in cold weather (as I had been doing for the past 4 months while I tested the limits). As I was boosting cold, the double thorttle opened causing a boost spike from 8psi up to 12psi. If most of you didn't know, double throttle limits boost to 8psi and blocks flow to the secondary's till the engine is warmed up. Pop goes the wease. There's no way the factory tune could compensate for those conditions. Oh yea the bimmer (even 9yrs old) is freaking solid). Them damn German's don't play!

 

and why would you use 87 octane in your rotary? you didnt read the little sticker that says "unleaded fuel only" didnt ya? lol

 

87 octane is unleaded fuel, and it's great to use in a rotary......a normally aspirated one anyway

what kind of power was he making?

 

Mine has not been on the dyno since the new turbo and manifold was put in (Precision T76) but at 10psi it pulls like hell and has no problems breaking the tires loose in a rolling 4th gear pull.

Since mine is daily driven I will probably be happy with 500rwhp, pretty sure its possible to achieve on pump gas.

I cant think of too many other cars that have the combination of exotic looks, amazing sound and awsome power that a single turbo 20b FD has.

 

0-60 times are irrelevant in the real world, they're just talking numbers for little kids and old guys who are going through a midlife crisis, the 1/4 times and speed is where it's at. for reference a friend of mine goes to the track weekly and is a very good driver, his gt40 13b puts down about 400 whp, he easily keeps up with 500 hp c6 z06 vettes around the track, running stock width (though they are R-comp) rims on 255 tires, that's not very wide, on the same setup he ran a 12.2 in the 1/4 (I forget the speed). The fastest a c6 z06 has run is a 10.9 something though with an average driver I can see an 11.5 as average. A full second in the 1/4 is a pretty big difference, that just shows what a good driver and the right setup can do with these cars, he's getting a big brake kit with stupid wide ccw classics after the end of this season, and he should be able to put all that power to the ground, right now he has to slow down drastically in some of the corners because if he doesn't he'll just break the tires loose and spin.

If all you want to do is drag race your car, get the right setup, rotary performance (rx7.com) is a great place to start, to really put down 600+ whp you're gonna need some massive fender flares to fit the tires, plus a solid suspension setup, go research on ls1tech or some mustang forums, they'll probably have more info on that. There's a reason why some of the stupid fast drag cars you see are tubbed, that's the only way they can get the traction to run those times.
