Cool Help With 20B Project

Okay I have a lot of questions for anybody who can give me some time and PLEASE help me out. I found a real clean 20B (don't know what series as of right now) that I could buy for $3500. It comes with everything but the ECU, the AC components, the air pump, the downpipe, and the automatic transmission that they all come with. It only has 46,000 miles on it, and from the looks of it (nothing has grime or oil or anything of the sort on it) it looks really clean. I was wanting to know if it would be worth it to buy that or not. I know it's a pretty good deal, but maybe some of you guys know of a place where I can get even a cheaper deal or somethin. I would also like to know more information about WHY people change the front cover, OMP, coils, and everything else that people tend to change that's on a 20B. I have read the threads that others have made about these, but no one tells exactly WHY they do it. If any of you guys can kind of send me in the right path, it would be much appreciated. Oh and one more thing: those things that everyone seems to change off of their 20B, if you could tell me what the best replacement parts would be for them that'd be very nice, too. My goal in this project is to run anywhere from 500 to 600 hp with the stock turbos, so keep the hp figures in mind when telling me an advice. Thanks a BUNCH beforehand guys for putting our time to read my essay and giving me feedback....

All the bits that you mentioned that wont come with the engine you wont need as you will use alot of the fd components a/c, power steer pump ,trans etc.
You should find out what series the engine is before buying it, you are better off trying to get a c or d series engine.
You also dont need to change the front cover.

That's what they claim. AFAIK, that's with ported 13B-rew housings AND a modified second turbo.

Your other questions seem to have been addressed, except for the front cover. By putting an '87 13BT front cover on the 20B, you can mount a mechanical OMP. When going to aftermarket ECUs, you usually lose the ability to control the electric OMP that is stock. The alternative is to use pre-mix, which is what I do.

thanks everyone for all their help. i know that i wont be needing half the stuff that comes with the 20b, and i know about the series and stuff as well. at this point since i can't go and see the engine myself, but i can't be sure about the series, but i'm hoping it's a series c or d cause of the better eccentric shaft that those series come with. the hp number that i'm talking about i've seen people get to them with their stock turbos and their ported engines with some nice fuel systems and big intercoolers and huge exhaust and the whole bit. what i'm gonna do is pretty much change EVERYthing on the engine and car, except for the actual turbos. i'm gonna port whatever i can get my hands on, but at the same time since it's gonna be a daily driver car, so i'm not gonna boost too high. i am gonna be running either a haltech e11v2 or a microtech ltx-12s so now that i know that it's the electric omp that's the problem with this engine, what can i do to get around that problem? what have most people done. i want a "simple" way to go around that little problem and i don't want to have to premix cause that's gonna be a drag since my car's gonna be a daily driving thing (everytime i have to fill gas i have to put oil into the car). i also wanted to know WHY people change their front covers. will i be doing the wrong thing if i kept it? thanks all you guys for all the help so far; it is much appreciated....

Yes, it is around those hp numbers, but as stated above, the turbo(s) arent stock, and neither are the ports.

well, I don't know what to tell you. The FD turbos are bigger than the 20Bs and they wont support 500hp. they wont even support 500 at the flywheel.

i don't know man. when i think about it, even though i'd love to drive something that fast, i don't really need it. my car's gonna be a daily driver (even though i'm not gonna drive it every day since i have a bike and that's my mileage sponge) so i don't need somethin that crazy. one can only hope for the best. thanks for all the info though guys....
